SALTED CARAMEL: "It emerges from the immaculate counter still cool. It's unexpected but delightful, like a bite of the most decadent ice cream in existence. Except it's not ice cream. The succulent block of caramel that has been gently kissed with sea salt and planted on a tender cookie crust, is a textural sensation to the tongue and a flavor symphony to the palate. The interplay between the salt topping; the lush, buttery sweet caramel; and the crisp shortbread bottom is nothing short of addicting. Don't plan on saving half for later." --Diana, Diana Takes A Bite

  2. 2 4.5 Star Rating: Recommended Ice Kiss

    3407 W 6th St, Los Angeles, CA 90020 (map)

ICE KISS: "If Hello Kitty had a favorite sweet, it would definitely be Ice Kiss' take on traditional Korean shaved ice. This colorful, kid-a-riffic dessert is equivalent to one of those suicide sodas you'd mix at the gas station as a youngin'. Throw in shaved ice, ice cream, red bean paste, cherry syrup, chocolate syrup, fruity pebbles and fruit cocktail (are you getting my drift?), and prepare for the ultimate sugar rush. Their single serving was plenty for two, but for the adventurous, try the monster-sized version which comes in a dog bowl." -- Angeline Vuong, Citysearch Editor

STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE: "Light and refreshing, this gingery shortcake pairs beautifully with the layers of fluffy mousse studded with huge slices of fresh strawberries. It might not have eggs, dairy or refined sugar (that's macrobiotic for ya), but with the natural sweetness of fresh berries and cream, who needs 'em? It had me humming 'Strawberry Fields Forever' for the rest of the day." –- Alex Bornhoft, Citysearch Editor

  4. 4 3 Star Rating: Average Phoenix Food Boutique

220 E Valley Blvd, Alhambra, CA 91801 (map)

MANGO SOY CUSTARD: "Silky smooth soy custard, chewy tapioca pearls, sweet ripe mangoes. Top it all off with a bit of sinful condensed milk. It's soo delicious, refreshing, and might I say healthy too! Unique and extremely satisfying, and a generous portion for $3.75!" --Fiona, Gourmet Pigs

  5. 5 2.5 Star Rating: Below Average XIV

8117 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90046 (map)

WHITE CHOCOLATE CUBE: "If Jackson Pollock had gone to culinary school, he probably would've whipped up something not unlike this incredible piece of edible art. The creation of XIV's pastry wunderkind Jordan Kahn, this unusual white chocolate cube--drizzled in black sesame sauce--is no doubt a sight to behold. The compact, glass-like shell explodes into a nectarous swirl of color, oozing with meticulously chosen flavors that read like an ingredient list to some dreamy perfume: cream of cassis (a cross between a currant and blackberry), hibiscus and blood orange. Oh yeah, and beets. It's syrupy sweet, fragrant and complex. And unlike anything you've ever seen or tasted before." –- Mar Yvette, Citysearch Editor
