Best places to nurse a hangover

Griddle Cafe
Read Reviews7916 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90046 (map)
Walk by this hole in the wall cafe on a weekend morning and you'll be curious how this average joe eatery could have a line down the street. Step inside and take a gander at their menu and you'll wonder no more. Oreo flapjacks, Nutella french toast, and bailey's and kahula pancakes are just a few of their items that'll have you in a sugar coma. They also all have cute names like, "Yellow Brick Road" and "The Golden Ticket." The serving sizes are huge which is perfect for soaking up all the alcohol from the night before. Despite this place lacking any glitz and glamour, you'll often find a lot of actors and other Hollywood types here.

Taste on Melrose
Read Reviews8454 Melrose Ave, West Hollywood, CA 90069 (map)
There are so many options for brunch in Los Angeles so what makes Taste stand out? There isn't one item or feature that makes this a great brunch spot, but rather they just do brunch right. They have all the staples you need from protein scrambles to french toast and mimosas. But you can also get their famous kobe beef cheese burger or a grilled cheese sandwich. The restaurant is open which is perfect for a nice Sunday morning. It's nice, but not stuffy so you can just relax and enjoy your meal.
-
Geoffrey's Malibu
Read Reviews27400 Pacific Coast Hwy, Malibu, CA 90265 (map)
Geoffrey's is the mac daddy of brunches. This isn't your casual, last-minute, hungover brunch spot. Reserve this for special occasions like Mother's Day, anniversaries, and when you need to treat yourself. Overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Malibu you will dine on delectables such as tuna tartar, baked brie pastries, and lobster quiche. No bottomless mimosas here, but there is a great selection of refreshing drinks. It's pricey but it's something that everyone should enjoy at some point.
Best places to satisfy that burger craving
-
The Counter
Read Reviews2901 Ocean Park Blvd, Santa Monica, CA 90405 (map)
Have it your way! No, seriously! Make a burger exactly how you want it at this Santa Monica burger spot. Not only do you have your choice of meat, but you also can choose from 1/3 lb up to 1lb. This is a great place for couples and groups because you can be as healthy or as bad as you want. Picky eaters inquire within.
-
Father's Office 2.0
Read Reviews3229 Helms Ave, Culver City, CA 90034 (map)
This is the spot for you if too many options overwhelm you and you're just looking for a damn good burger. There's only one burger offered at Father's Office and there are no substitutes allowed. Believe me, you wont want to change this masterpiece. It's not your traditional burger- caramelized onion, applewood bacon compote, gruyere, matag blue cheese and arugula served on a roll instead of a bun. Make sure to get the sweet potato fries as well. What FO lacks in variety for burgers, they make up for in beer. Beer fanatics will love this place. It's also great for groups as long as you dont go at 8pm on a Friday or Saturday.
-
Houston's
Read Reviews10250 Santa Monica Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90067 (map)
It's date night and you're dying for a burger, but you know your girl wont go for In N Out. What to do? Houston's is the answer to your prayers. Here you will find some of the best burgers possible and it doubles as a great date spot. The Hickory Burger is a favorite, but even hardcore meat eaters should try to veggie burger. It's the same size as the other burgers so you wont feel like a wimp eating it. When you think burgers, you probably don't think sushi, but this places also has a small, but amazing sushi menu.
Best food in my hood- the Weho Strip
-
Pinches Tacos
Read Reviews8200 W. Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood, CA 90046 (map)
In a neighborhood that is packed with many of the hardest to get into places in town, Pinches offers a simple but still flavorful alternative. It's good, cheap, and open late- enough said.
-
The Standard
Read Reviews8300 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90069 (map)
There are definitely some downfalls to living so close to the Sunset Strip, but the 24 Hour Dinner at the Standard makes up for all of them. Okay, so the food is overpriced, but at 3am it's worth it. The people watching here is also priceless.
-
The Tower Bar
Read Reviews8358 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90069 (map)
One word- Dimitri. Dimitri Dimitrov is the maitre d' at the Tower Bar and he makes this restaurant what it is. Forget agents, producers and so forth- this is the man who really knows EVERYONE in Hollywood. The Tower Bar is also a great neighborhood spot because, while high profile, it is relaxed and inviting. The food is delicious and the drinks potent. You can have a business meeting here, a romantic date or even meet friends at the bar.
Best Asian
-
Alibi Room
Read Reviews12236 W Washington Blvd, Culver City, CA 90066 (map)
So probably not the first place that comes to mind when you think of asian food, but this is the place for Korean BBQ. If chasing the Koji Korean BBQ truck all over town is too much work for you then you can just head straight to this bar which serves their food all the time. Their 3 taco combo is the item to get but, honestly, everything is amazing. Keep an eye out for their dessert specials as well. They're always to die for.
-
Katsu-Ya
Read Reviews11680 Ventura Blvd, Studio City, CA 91604 (map)
Before there was Katsu-Ya Hollywood, there was Katsu-Ya Studio City. This original outpost for the, now trendy, chain is nothing like the other Phillipe Stark locations. It's not about the scene. It's about the food. But don't think that it's going to be empty because it's not the Hollywood location. There can be a very long wait on certain nights. But it's all worth it because the sushi will be some of the best you've ever tasted.
-
Nobu
Read Reviews3835 Cross Creek Rd Ste 18A, Malibu, CA 90265 (map)
This is the best sushi restaurant period. I feel in love with this restaurant years ago and since then have made it my mission to visit every location. I have and guess what. This one blasts all the others out of the water. It's the freshest sushi of all the locations with the best menu as well. They also have their housemade passionfruit sake which you'll down like it was water. What's best though is while you enjoy this amazing food, you're surrounded by the nicest and most welcoming Malibu residents. If you frequent the restaurant you will quickly become friends with many of the other regulars and make some great friends. I like to think of this place as my Cheers and you will too.
Best restaurants for being that cheesy couple sitting on the same side of the table
-
Pace
Read Reviews2100 Laurel Canyon Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90046 (map)
Tucked away in Laurel Canyon, this dimly lit restaurant is a favorite among locals. For couples looking to go unnoticed this is the perfect spot to chat over a bottle of wine. The food is healthy and the scene is casual. No tourists here!
-
Comme Ca
Read Reviews8479 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90069 (map)
Anywhere that features a Défaire Love Affair Menu is probably a good choice for a romantic night out. Comme Ca just introduced a new menu with $2 oysters and $7 aphrodisiac cocktails. Sadly, these prices are only available from 4-6pm. But it's still a great date spot at other times as well.
-
Asia de Cuba at Mondrian
Read Reviews8440 W Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069 (map)
Just dining in this restaurant will make you feel hot. The decor inside is peaceful and clean. If you want something a little more private and mood enhancing, you should dine outside among their oversize planters. The food here is eclectic and absolutely amazing. It's family style so get to know your date as you share some lobster potstickers or Cuban opera cake.
Best sugar highs
-
21 Choices
Read Reviews85 W Colorado Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91105 (map)
Inspiration for Cold Stone? This place is the original. With all the frozen yogurt places popping up all over you'd think 21 Choices' business would be lacking but it continues to boom. People line up for this all natural frozen yogurt because, simply put, it is the best! For starters, their flavors like "white butterfinger magic" and "lemon cookie bar" already have toppings mixed into them. And it gets bette as then you get to add your own mix-ins they same way they would at Cold Stone.
-
SusieCakes
Read Reviews11708 San Vicente Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90049 (map)
Most bakeries have that one item that costumers rave on and on about. In SusieCakes case, that item is their cakes. Their marble and celebration cakes are the best you'll find. WARNING: Bring a friend to help if you order a piece of cake because it's a fifth of a 6 layer cake!
-
Compartes Chocolatier
Read Reviews912 S Barrington Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90049 (map)
Gourmet chocolates at their best. This place has all the classics but what sets them apart is their unique flavor truffles. Must tries include the honey, peanut butter and sea salt truffle, the chocolate and Guinness beer truffle and the sake truffle.
Best places to be cheap and eat great
-
Wahoo's Fish Taco
Read Reviews6258 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90048 (map)
Nothing on their menu will set you back more than $10. Not only is it affordable but it's filling and delicious. The shrimp tacos are a favorite of mine. What's great is that if you're in need of a big meal you can get a bowl or if you you just need something small you can grab items a la carte.
-
Lemonade
Write a review9001 Beverly Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90048 (map)
You will fall in love with this lunch spot. It's a little confusing at first and can be overwhelming but don't let that deter you. Basically there are a bunch of marketplace items like salads, veggies, and starches. You pick 1, 2 or 3 items. The trick though is to have them split the portion so that you get two items for the price of one. One items is $4 and two are $7.50.
-
Stone Fire Pizza Co.
Read Reviews829 N La Cienega Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90069 (map)
Normally their pizzas go for $13-$18 but if you go during happy hour, Monday- Friday 4-7pm, they're half off. They have a really great selection of pizzas from your traditional to a shrimp pesto one.
Best places for those night owls
-
Swingers
Read Reviews8020 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90048 (map)
It's a little bit more upscale than Canter's but still with all the charm of a late night diner. Unlike a lot of the places that stay open late on the weekends only, this spot is open until 4am everyday.
-
Il Tramezzino
Read Reviews454 N Canon Dr, Beverly Hills, CA 90210 (map)
Nothing tastes better than a panini from Il Tramezzino except for a panini from Il Tramezzino at 3am. On the weekends this Beverly Hills spot stays open until 4am so that you can nosh on sandwiches, salads and, most importantly, Nutella on crossiants.
-
Vinolio
Write a review1634 N Cahuenga Blvd, Hollywood, CA 90028 (map)
Finally, something other than diner food after midnight. Vinolio is a pizza/italian joint that is open until 4am on weekends. It's classy yet hip.
Best places to refuel after a workout
-
M Cafe de Chaya
Read Reviews7119 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90046 (map)
You'd think you'd have to be a hardcore health nut to find something enjoyable at a place that serves contemporary macrobiotic cuisine. But once you try their blueberry pancakes, a rice bowl or one of their sweets you'll reconsider.
-
Tender Greens
Read Reviews9523 Culver Blvd, Culver City, CA 90232 (map)
Salads, salads, salads. This place proves that a salad is more than just some green leafs on a plate. Lots of healthy and interesting choices here.
-
Food Lab Catering
Read Reviews7253 Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90046 (map)
This spot serves healthy and mostly organic fair which is both nutritious and delicious! The organic curried chicken with lingonberry chutney on raisin walnut is a favorite. And if you want to treat yourself they also have cookies by Deluscious .
Best places to get fat
-
Roscoe's House of Chicken 'n Waffles
-
The Melting Pot, Pasadena
Read Reviews88 W Colorado Blvd 2nd Fl, Pasadena, CA 91105 (map)
You'll have to forget about your diet to enjoy this place. Dipping bread into cheese, followed by meat into oil and topped off with fruit and cake into chocolate.
-
Mastro's Steakhouse - Beverly Hills
Read Reviews246 N Canon Dr, Beverly Hills, CA 90210 (map)
It starts with one of the best best bread baskets in Los Angeles and doesn't end until that last bite of buttercake. Everything at this Beverly Hills steakhouse is so good that you'll want to order it all which will leave you feeling more than a little stuffed.
