St. Patrick's Day Planner
Updated: February 25, 2009
"Going green" might be all the rage this year. But on Tuesday, March 17th, green living will take on a more traditional twist as party people take to the streets (or at least the pubs) to embrace their Irish heritage--even if they don't have one. Los Angeles bars will be packed and green beer will most definitely be flowing, so check out our favorite spots to feel a little luck o' the Irish.
Restaurants & Bars
-
O'Brien's Irish Pub & Restaurant
Read Reviews2941 Main St, Santa Monica, CA 90405 (map)
Electric guitars and pints of Guinness flow freely at this Santa Monica Irish pub. The music is always blaring, the crowd is festive and rowdy ...it's pretty much exactly what a proper Celt could ever ask for on March 17th.
-
Tom Bergin's Tavern
Read Reviews840 S Fairfax Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90036 (map)
With walls plastered over in years' worth of paper-shamrock tradition, this dark pub is after-work casual and perfect for tossing back pints. Grab some grub from an authentic homemade Irish menu and open up a Guinness tab that'll make 'em proud! To celebrate St. Patty's Day right the bar will open at 6am.
-
Key Club
Read Reviews9039 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069 (map)
St. Pat's is more than just one night at this Sunset Strip club. Their drink specials (green beer, aye!) start Saturday, March 14 when Celtic rock 'n rollers, The Young Dubliners, take the stage; heavy metal faves, Skid Row, will be performing on the night of the actual Irish holiday.
-
Casey's Irish Bar & Grille
Read Reviews613 S Grand Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90017 (map)
Elbow to elbow and shoulder to shoulder, there will be a sea of green on St. Patrick's Day at this downtown Irish bar. Slide into a high-backed wooden booth and keep the whiskey's coming. Casey's is located underground and it's easy for patrons to lose track of time during all the festive revelry. And really, who cares? March 17 comes but once a year.
-
The Auld Dubliner
Read Reviews71 S Pine Ave, Long Beach, CA 90802 (map)
With a name like that, can you imagine being anywhere else on St. Patrick's Day? This Long Beach Irish staple is perfect for evening wind-downs or pint-fueled weekends. On the 17th expect the outdoor patio to be rife with Irish whiskey and music from a live band.
-
Sonny McLean's
Read Reviews2615 Wilshire Blvd, Santa Monica, CA 90403 (map)
Black-and-white photographs of old Ireland hang next to vintage beer and cigarette ads at this Irish pub, where bartenders have been known to pour a thick pint of Guinness with a clover imprinted into the top of the beer's thick head. Arrive early to reserve "The Office," furnished with two couches and a coffee table; it's the perfect place to kick back and enjoy a view of the hardy drinkers at the tables and booths in the bar area.
-
Timmy Nolan's Tavern
Read Reviews10111 Riverside Dr, Toluca Lake, CA 91602 (map)
Head to Toluca Lake for bagpipers at this "Cheers"-like neighborhood Irish pub. There'll be plenty of good times in their main bar, a narrow space crowded with plasma TVs and die-hard regulars. After you've raised a pint or two, retire to the upstairs dining room where the vibe is more family-friendly and a full menu, including Irish nachos, is served.
-
Ireland's 32
Read Reviews13721 Burbank Blvd, Van Nuys, CA 91401 (map)
Harp signs, Killian flags and a Colin Farrell sound-alike bartender help create the closest thing to Dublin one can find in the Valley. Sure, it's a no frills joint, but it's also full of character (and old Irish attitude and charm).
-
Irish Times
Read Reviews3267 Motor Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90034 (map)
If Culver City is your 'hood, this Irish pub is your hangout on St. Pat's. Find the festivities hidden beneath a freeway overpass. Here, European beers are $4 a pint--an extra buck for Guinness--so you'll definitely save some green while wearing it. If you don't fill up on beer, a service menu features authentic Euro pub grub, complete with fish and chips.
