What People Are Saying About Koontz Hardware

In Short – The modest exterior of this West Hollywood institution belies the bounty of merchandise inside. Every inch of shelf and wall space is packed with gadgets and gizmos to help make your domicile a home. A bevy of staffers stash themselves around the corners and, like good English butlers, seem to appear just as queries form in your thoughts. It may not compare with warehouse chains in terms of acreage or volume pricing, but for shoppers who relish browsing, it's a hardware haven. – –

Helpful and Friendly Neighborhood Hardware Store!
by littletree323 at Citysearch
Koontz employees are always helpful and friendly. I've gone there several times for just about everything I need to fix things around the house. I went there last week and they were about to close but they didn't rush me and showed me many options for what I was looking for. They never push products that you don't need and one time they suggested another hardware store because they didn't have what I needed. Whether you just need a copy to a key or a bigger item, they are the people to go to.
Poor Customer Service

Very disappointed in the customer service here. Am a regular customer, preferring to buy local than over the Internet, and had to return a defective item. They would only let me do so if I paid half a restocking charge. I pointed out that an online company like Amazon would have immediately provided a refund or other satisfactory remedy. They were rude, and apparently Rule One of Good Customer Service: 'The Customer Is Always Right,' has not reached this small part of the globe. Afraid Koontz is going to go the way of all those boarded-up Blockbusters, since customer service is all they can compete on.
Large hardware store, great selection, helpful staff

Koontz Hardware is my friendly neighborhood hardware store. West Hollywood has probably one of the best hardware stores anywhere. This place reminds me of my old hometown hardware store with items stacked from floor to ceiling (a high ceiling). They'll make keys here. They sell paint. I bought a BBQ grill here. I've bought parts. They sell kitchen blenders and bedroom clocks. It's hard to think of what you can't get here (lumber perhaps?). Skip the giant warehouse store unless you want to get lost. At Koontz they'll take you right to the location in the store for what you're looking for. They even have plenty of parking (two levels). This place is awesome.

Koontz is near and so dear.

If every hardware store in the world were as attentive to and mindful of customers, stocked this much variety, and priced their merchandise so reasonably, there would be fewer angry and broke people walking the planet. I've always loved Koontz, but after being recently traumatized by Home Depot, I appreciate Koontz all the more. Every department at Koontz has its own specialist, and they're experts, not random people assigned to a random department. They know the merchandise inside out, and if you don't see what you need, they WILL find it, whether it's upstairs or requires climbing the shelves all the way to the ceiling. The people who work at Koontz are straight talkers: they'll tell you exactly what you need or don't, and where to find what you need if Koontz doesn't have it or do it. These are lovely people who will never shluff you off, and they all have a great sense of humor. FYI: Koontz has a vast and inexpensive plumbing supply and selection of drawer hardware, and they stock a medley of some of the best cookware (Le Creuset! All Clad!), cutlery (Henckels!), small appliances (Krups! Braun!), and dishes (Waechtersbach!). Koontz is awesome for repairs, too: my cat shredded an 8-foot tall screen for a sliding door, and Koontz replaced it within 24 hours for $13. They did a beautiful job! I was shocked: Home Depot had assured me I would need to special order a $150 screen with frame! Koontz to the rescue, as usual. Sure, the aisles are narrow, but who cares when the shopping and customer service are out of this world? It's part of the Koontz experience! Don't be put off by the prospect of having to park on Santa Monica or San Vicente either. If you enter the small driveway on San Vicente, stay straight and you'll see Koontz's underground garage on the left, and if you enter through the driveway on Santa Monica, head down the driveway and swing a right. I can't say enough about Koontz; it's always a wonderful place to visit. I'll give Koontz my money anytime!
Can't live without Koontz hardware - seriously!

Every time I've moved, it's been the usual disaster..and who's there to pick up the pieces? Yep, you got it, Koontz hardware. Is there anything Koontz doesn't have? From designer-quality pots and pans, to the most obscure electrical micronic parts, Koontz has it. They also have a referral list for handymen who will come to your house and do all those weird things you don't feel like doing - like hanging mirrors and paintings, small electrical jobs, paint, etc. etc. etc. The staff at Koontz is extremely knowledgeable..and kinda interesting from a people-watcher's viewpoint..I especially like the biker-chick who is an authority on the entire stock at Koontz. Not to mention the geniuses in the locksmith department, they rule!
What would life in WeHo be without Koontz hardware? A dismal disaster and a cross-Hollywood trek to noname Depot, that's what. Blessed be Koontz hardware, for you take care of all us West Hollywood citizens who live in fear of screwing in the wrong stuff!!
