great italian food, very attentive service, simply amazing place, rude customer service, funny waiter, overrated people, worst dining experience
Very expensive poor quality food. The tab for 2 appetizers, 2 entrees & 4 glasses of wine will set you back over $230. The $33 saute Scallop entree is just a big plate of over-cooked rubbery scallops. It will leave a fishy taste in your mouth later on. Dont order a glass of the house Chianti either. Tastes like rot-gut vinegar. This was especially disappointing since there are chianti bottles decorating the ceiling, as if they are known for a good chianti. Martinis are good & expensive, but watch out... it's likely the waiter will spill 1/2 of it before he serves it to you.
Extremely overrated.
I love historic restaurants, Hollywood history, and Italian food. I was greatly looking forward to dining
at Dan Tana's and went there on a special birthday. It was a great disappointment. The maitre'd
was very rude. We arrived early and the main room was only 1/3 full and he would not let us move
from a teeny table to a booth. His excuse was that he needed room for a crowd that would arrive
90 minutes later. We should have walked out of the restaurant at that point. But being imbued with
the restaurant's legend, and not wanting to make a fuss on a special day, we stayed. But I felt worse
and worse. The food was just so so. It was not worth the price. I would never give anyone a recommendation to eat here. BTW, you can't see the celebrities in the bar from the main dining
room. Why bother going to Dan Tana's? It has nothing to offer but B.S.
very rude employees. The employees are very rude, especially on the phone. I made a reservations but soon cancelled because of the meany on the phone. If they are like that right off the bat, I'd rather not pay money to eat there. The person who answered the phone gave me a "great" impression of what the staff is like--horrible!
Don't Tana's.
Rudest people I have ever seen in my life.
Just don't go!
Rather order a pizza than going to that restaurant again.
Nightmare!.
Probably the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant. The Personnel is condescending and over all food mediocre.
It is a waste of money and time. I highly recommend to avoid that establishment.
Also very disappointed in their French wine selection.
They have the worst attitude from the hostess, sommelier and/or manager to the waiters.
HORRIBLE
Bad food and customer service.
Would never recommend this place to anyone unless it was to say "Stay away"
Food is average. Service stinks, Seating even with reservations is awful. Place is extremely noisy with people who are overrated and too impressed to be polite.
Waste of time, money and effort. Head waiter does nothing but pocket $100 bills while little (cockroaches)run up and down the walls.
Nothing Else Like It In Town!. Consistently one of the best places in LA to eat, drink and have a fun time. It's a tiny place that's always packed, they serve great food (one of the best steaks period!), and strong drinks. And they always take care of celebs and regulars alike. Unfortunately some losers and toursits that are expecting an Olive Garden experience will find something to complain about. This place is all about old school class from the maitre d' to bartender and staff. Sometimes your reservation can run a little late- but aren't the best things in life worth waiting for?
worst service in LA. That's saying something!. I am a restaurant owner and chef. This is the worst dining experience to date for me in LA and I have had some bad ones. Sat at 9:45 for 8:30 reservations. First wine not chilled. The second choice on the underwhelming list was $40 more and not worth it. Service was terrible on all levels. Tomato sauce and bread were the only high points and I could have done better back in South Philly. If you need to sit around celebs go. If you want good Italian go somewhere else. This is my first review on Citysearch because I am just that upset! Dan Tana's is everything that is wrong about the LA dining scene.
Old Fashioned Italian Restaurant. I have been here twice with my boyfriend. We enjoyed the calamari and the mozzerella marinara. The first time there we loved the chicken parm. This was on a Saturday night and it was amazing. When we came back on a Sunday it was just okay. I don't know if it was a different chef, but it was not the same as the first time. I did not like the shrimp scampi or the diablo. The cappucino ice cream is delicious. This place is definitely old school. We had a great table both times, but I think the host expects a small tip.
Big portions, long wait. Reservations: 9:00pm, seated 10pm-ANNOYING! The host was fun and funny though. He let me sit in his spot so people thought I worked there. We definitely had to entertain ourselves while we waited. Seemed like they overbook all the time. Food was pretty good, portions are pretty big...for the first time ever we had dessert left over. A few of the staff were inappropriate with their gestures or comments but were just trying to be funny. Make sure you're entire party is there on time to get seated but it really didn't seem that reservations are honored too much. Something that upset our group, the lemonade is really good. My friends weren't asking for refills but ended up getting charged when they refilled 9pm-10:30pm on the weekend def. seemed like their peak hours. We barely had anywhere to sit or stand since the place is small. A lot of regulars, we saw Ricky and Cathy Hilton leaving in addition to his name on the menu. Good to go once but not worth the wait.
