great breakfast, very good service, decent uncomplicated meal, great place, always friendly staff, really liked eggs, cold fries
Funky spot on the Strip. This is a cute old school diner in the middle of the Sunset Strip. It's good for greasy spoon-style American breakfasts. There's all sorts of rock n' roll memorabilia on the walls. It's an unlikely spot to see celebs, but some friends saw Nicky Hilton there once. I'm sure others come in as well because of the location.
Come and get cussed out at Duke's.
THIS place seems to condone the use of profanity by it's employees toward customers.
Over the weekend I stopped in after 2:00pm with a few friends. Upon reporting to the management, a one Adam Newton, of unprovoked and unwarranted verbal abuse by his slightly overweight, red haired female waitress, which included the use of profanity, Adam rudely began to immediately question validity of the story, even though the event was witnessed by all inside. It appears management will stand up for BAD EMPLOYEE behavior. Eat at your own risk.
Horrible food RUDE people. This place is a joke! I don't know who would give these jerks their hard earned money. The food was greasy and horrible. The staff acts like they don't want to be there and are annoyed by having to wait on you. SUCKS!
I love Dukes!.
I tried this place a few times and think they have a great establishment.
Very nice employees they have working for them.
The food did take a little longer than usual to prepare and get to you table but I was overall very impressed.
Food is ok. hot turkey sandwich is good
Worest Experience Ever. The business is under new management and the quality of service and food has changed. Dukes delivers which is great, however the time that you spend waiting on the food to get to you along with cold fries and old lettuce isn't worth the wait.
Citysearch Editorial Review. The oversized, shiny coffee cup on its logo is the first tip that this Sunset Strip mainstay is a far cry from its former life as Duke’s Coffee Shop, a diner known as much for its mediocre food as it was for its soggy floors and overall dinginess, replete with a bathroom that smelled of cedar shakes. Still, regulars were of that exceedingly devoted daily lunch variety, many of them paparazzi-hounded celebrities and rockers, some of them in the photos lining the walls. Now the LPs no longer hang from the ceiling, and the joint has gotten a lot more than a fresh coat of brightly colored paint, a good washing and a partial image overhaul. (Nobody wants to turn off the celeb clientele, after all.) While the menu has trademark staples like heavy breakfasts, “classic” hamburgers and Monte Cristos, there are now vegan, vegetarian and California-lite options like sauteed tofu plates and turkey avocado wraps. The kitschy, comfy authenticity that made Duke’s Duke's is pretty much gone, but the servers are still the friendliest you’ll find in this neck of the woods, the place is brightened up, and it’s nice to have healthy options on the menu. It’s true; change is good and we all have to grow up sometime, but diehards are still going to have a tough time ordering a Rainforest Smoothie.
classic diner. How an you not love this place? An all around LA classic! Great breakfast anytime of day and the remodel is beautiful. Good burgers too and amazing staff. Very bright inside. Better choice than Norm's or even Mel's in my opinion.
So-so meal at best....
Had some friends rave over this place, so we tried it. It was crowded and the food was average at best. The service was very good, they even refilled our water (amazing!)
We proabaly won't go back...!
Ok food, Bad Experience.
My girl and I went for breakfast Saturday late morning. We placed our order with one waitress while 2 waiters alternated in taking care of us. I ordered the mexican scramble (chorizo and eggs with potatoes) my girl got an omelette. Our food took 30 mins at the least to get to us and its because they forgot to put in our order. I could see the cook making the meals and everyone getting served EXCEPT us. When I told one of our waiters he started to pipe up with an excuse but never finished and took off. He never returned to tell us the status of our order, instead the other waiter came up to us concerned and asked if everything was ok. We told him we hadnt gotten our food in over 30 mins he rushed to the cook and i could see the cook barely starting to whip up our order. It was done in no time but by that time I was so turned off on this place. I thought this place was going to be really good since they have been around for a while and had a citysearch sticker for Best Breakfast. Seriously people?? Im not super picky but they had basic items on their menu and they weren't that great for what u pay. I am officially labeling this place a tourist trap and warning you all to stay away and try something better like Joey's in weho or Hugo's. If you want simple breakfast items like they serve at Dukes ONLY done the right way for less you can get it at Norm's. That's saying a lot casuse I hate Norm's but I would have rather gone there at that point.
Oh and then to top it off, they gave us the wrong check! The waitress, yup same one that forgot to put in our order, comes over to tell us we are "so lucky" that the other couple got the wrong check cause we saved 3 dollars on sub par food. Thanks lady I feel bad for the other couple.
Still an attraction on the weekend. weekday lunches are uncrowded, service is good and prices are great. I would recommend dressing on the side if you get the Chinese Chicken salad.
