Delicious Salsa, Free Water with Lids.
So far, at this Poquito Mas I've spotted the middle Hanson brother, Josh Lucas, and Josh Lucas's dog. Foodwise, I've had the enchiladas, been and cheese burrito, cobb salad, and chile pasilla plate.
I would say that the food was less exciting than Josh Lucas (I really enjoyed "Sweet Home Alabama"), but more exciting than the brother Hanson (my Backstreet Boys loyalties run deep). I was ambivalent about Josh Lucas's dog, as s/he isn't famous. The chips are particularly exciting to me, as they serve as a vessel to drink salsa with. I usually get the textured black one and the bright red one with seeds. I don't know what they're called, but I'm they're both made with a mixture of chili peppers, tomatoes and magic.
This location sells Snapple Lemon Tea, which is nice because I really appreciate a good Snapple fact with my Mexican food. Here's a fact for you: on rainy days Poquito Mas gives away free soup. I would say that the soup isn't great enough for you to make a trip just to get it for free, but if you were planning on eating there anyway it's a pretty nice treat. You can always get free water though. It comes in a clear cup with a lid and everything. Places tend to skimp on lids with their free waters, and then you have to deal with floaty dust and debris in your water. Not here though.
Local fresh-Mex chain serves Baja-style food, with vegetarian and low-carb options..
The Scene
White-tiled tables and green plastic chairs fill the covered indoor-outdoor dining room. Half-walls allow in the breeze on sunny days, and plasticine curtains can be drawn to shut out rain. Worker bees and families flock here during the midday lunch rush and for inexpensive dinners. Counter service adds to the relaxed environment.
The Food
Priding themselves on the motto "we don't serve fast food, we serve fresh food as fast as we can," this quality taco stand is known for ample portions, freshly made tortillas, and burritos packed so full of prime ingredients there is usually no room for rice-and-bean fillers. The grilled carnitas quesadilla is stuffed with flavorful pork, Jack and cheddar cheese. Tender shrimp, guacamole and cheese fill the San Felipe burrito--topping any burrito with rich red mojado sauce turns it into an oversized enchilada. Meatless nature's grill dishes, like the crispy-shelled tostada, brim with a mix of zucchini, eggplant, mushrooms, peppers and onions.
Cheap eats, quick service. Poquito Mas is one of my favorite stand-by eat-out places. The food is good and there's a decent variety to keep it interesting. The staff carry the food out to the tables for added convenience. My favorites are the chicken burrito and the quesadillas.
Healthy, tasty and reasonably priced. Parking notwithstanding this is fantastic California styled Mexican food. The staff is very hard working and the food is consistently prepared at a breakneck pace.
Love it!. I am always on the hunt for the best burrito in LA and am happy to have discovered Poquito Mas-- I highly recommend their Vegy Burrito. This is a great spot if you need to grab a quick, cheap bite to eat.
Fresh Mexican Cuisine on Sunset. Fast and fresh, the food here tastes as authentic as what you can get from taco trucks or stands but with the safer hygiene standards of an established restaurant. The meat options are delicious, especially the marinated steak, and tortillas are handmade on-location. I was a little disappointed, however, that the tacos were essentially just meat in a tortilla without any cheese, guac, sour cream or vegetables. There is a large salsa bar and it's likely you can order items on the side to top your tacos. I'll go back to try their burritos and carnitas.
Best Carnitas in town!. I go here almost once a week. I definitely recommend that you try their Carnitas Platter. Make sure to ask for extra chips though because sometimes they can get frugal. Parking is a bit of a pain but well worth the Carnitas.
Good food fast at a good price.. I think this is among the best "fast" food in the L.A. area. All of their dishes taste great and are apparently much healthier than your average fast food garbage. Their sals bar is also packed with great tasting salsa choices. They also appear to be cleaner than the average fast food dump. The proces are decent as well. Give them a try!
