The Scene – Come happy hour, Marix fills with thrill-seeking locals seeking potent margaritas and spicy dishes--and not just of the gastronomic variety. Each wood-trimmed cantina offers a decidedly different kind of action. The Santa Monica locale keeps a casual beach vibe, while the West Hollywood site jumps and bumps with a mostly gay clientele and a constant techno beat--even during Sunday brunch. – – The Food – Offset the "Kick Ass" margarita buzz with a lime-drenched seviche "cocktail" or guacamole appetizer. Entree options range from typical Mexican fare…

Marix is great if you look at the big picture. There is a ton of eye candy, great place to be seen, great drinks and the place can get bumpin. But, the food is average. But the ambiance compensates for the mediocre food. All in all, it's an above average place. For the health concious weho audience - ask for no or light oil on the fajita plates.
- Pros: eye candy, booze and shake shake shake
- Cons: can get tight/crowded, food is average
Really insulted by staff - don't waste your money here

I recently had dinner at Marix on a Friday night. Our party of three had an appetizer, 2 pitchers on margaritas and 3 meals. Everything was great (food and service) until our greedy waiter asked us to leave after we paid for our meal, oh wait, I mean, after he got his tip. Then he was done. We were informed that there was a 90 minute limit on our table & that we should go. And funny, we were just about to leave so if he could have waited just a few minutes I wouldn't be ranting. It would have been nice if that is an issue there, to have been informed earlier in our visit. We may have ordered less food and drinks so we wouldn't have stayed so long. And on their website it says, "expect a wait for a table" so if we're supposed to expect a wait - then why say anything to the folks who are spending money in the restaurant? So we complained to the apathetic manager on duty who listened to us and really didn't care that we were unhappy with the way we were treated. So if you are a glutton for punishment and want to waste your money on an establishment that isn't looking for repeat business - go ahead and enjoy the splendors of Marix Tex Mex Cafe!!!! They hate you already!
- Pros: None
- Cons: Worst restaurant in LA - don't go
Not TEX-MEX
by MacGyverEats at Citysearch
Warning: Marix is not actually Tex-Mex. The queso tastes like it was made from powdered cheese, or stale velveeta at best. The food was ok, for LA-style Mexican, but the long waits and rowdy crowds are definitely a negative. The service was great once we got to a table, but the sassy hostess seemed to have better things to do.
- Pros: Good service at table
- Cons: food was sub-par, sassy hostess
