favorite neighborhood book store, great bookstore, not real big place, really cool people, like nice, great staff, wonderful book soup

Book Soup is one of the most important bookstores in L.A. with a great selection of literature, photography, travel, and most recently Criterion films. They host readings and signings every week by high profile and local authors. Check out the discounted section for surprise discounts on classic and semi-obscure books. The staff is knowledgable, friendly, and eager to recommend - or just talk about - their favorite books. There's a parking lot in the alley behind the store.
A great bookstore in the heart of the Sunset Strip that specializes in celeb authors. On the schedule are Demetri Martin and Richard Belzer with Jeff Garlin hosting a book club at the shop.
Awesome Collection. Adds a calming sensation on the Sunset Strip. Book Soup is one of the few indie bookstores, and it's great for literary geeks. Not too big, but it does render images of an old school library. They also offer great signings as well with some of the biggest names in Hollywood.
One Of The Best Bookstores. This is definitely one of the better bookstores in the Los Angeles/West Hollywood area. Although it's physically mall, this store has one of the best selections of literature in Los Angeles; additionally, they have readings from various authors. In the heart of the Sunset Strip (Sunset Blvd. at Holloway Dr.), this is the finest bookstore for the most progressive literature.
An old fashioned treasure. This store is across the street from our office but I know many who travel far to come here and they say its their favorite book store in LA. This is not a barnes and noble or borders. Its small, intimate, edited, and feels like a place of the past. Good art section and intl magazines. Written from my cell phone.
This is a Bookstore. This place has everything as far as book stores go, and if they don't have they'll get it for you. Without all the mass consumer qualities of a Barnes and Noble. Really cool neighborhood feel, they have books you won't find anywhere else. Including a pretty cool selection of used books. They also have great readings from well-known authors. If you're looking for a cool neighborhood book store, this is it.
Great for Book Signings. They get some great authors in there for book signings. Eclectic selection of material, worth a look.
Hollywood's favorite meet-and-greet that doesn't sacrifice personal attention for Sunset Strip glitter.. A literary landmark smack dab in the middle of the Sunset Strip? That's right. From art and literature to travel, this unpretentious indie shop is an inviting reprieve for bookworms, tabloid hounds and everyone in between. Owner Glenn Goldman is choosy about his employees, even including essay questions on the job applications, so the staff's more than qualified to make recommendations. Though its vibe is far from the Strip's madding crowd, it does take a few cues from its famed environs, with entertainment and gay studies making a particularly strong show.
my kind of book store. I got off work early one day, so I decided to check out this little bookshop across the street, and I fell in love with the place. Other chain bookstores I have been to that have a rather sterile and commercial feel, but BookSoup still maintains a cozy, neighborhood book-store environment. When I walk into the store, I feel like I've just been engulfed in a sea of books as shelves of books are towering over me. Perusing through the shelves, I see that there are many recommendations and comments by the staff, which I think are pretty helpful.
chill local bookstore. i saw saul williams here for the first time--brillant! its nice to see a bookstore like this among, all the borders and barnes. great selection of taschen books too (nice, inexpensive coffee books). you can get lost in here. check out their local events from time to time..they bring in some good people.
Wow. Just Wow.... Incredible selection, super friendly and extremely knowledgeable staff. Not to mention the many, many in-store appearances by famous authors and celebrities. It's a bit pricey, but if that's the cost for the selection and service they provide - so be it. Highly highly .
Winding aisles of great titles. Great selection and atmosphere. Aisles invite browsing, and broad range of books that are off the beaten path. Staff is friendly and somewhat helpful. Biography, movie and art sections are extensive. Parking off Sunset difficult.
