Best Stylist in LA. David John, formerly of Fred Segal Beauty in Santa Monica, has recently moved to the Serge Normant @ John Frieda salon. I've been a client of his for 12 years - an eternity for someone as obsessed with hair as I am - and he is an absolute genius as both a colorist and stylist. My sister travels from San Diego to have him do her hair, my mother travels from the San Fernando Valley and my sister-in-law comes from Westlake Village. People stop us all on the street to remark on the beauty of our hair. And he is a darling; someone I'm thrilled to call my friend. RUN, don't walk, to Melrose Place to have him do your hair. You won't be disappointed.

"i won't go to anyone but david john. he's a master for cut and color, and one of the nicest people you will ever meet. that's why i followed him from fred segal to john frieda. i would follow him anywhere, truly. i'd follow him to a van down by the river if that's where he was doing hair. he's THAT good. luckily, he recently went to the john frieda salon. the most beautiful place. tranquil, serene, friendly. it's very uber-chic LA with celebrities and models, and very stylish folks, BUT shockingly everyone is so nice! i could spend an entire weekend there if they let me. when i explain a cut or color to david, it's like he's a mind reader. he always knows exactly what i'm after and miraculously delivers. i'm constantly changing my hair, so this is no small feat. i truly believe he is an artist--and his chair is seriously my happy place. he's the best. i wouldn't let anyone else touch my hair."
Great Stylist. Just had my haircut with Whitney and it was a wonderful experience. The haircut was everything that I asked for and more. Whitney didn't rush when another client came in. Instead she let another stylist handle the other client. She gave me a great haircut without me having to bring in a picture. I definitely recommend this salon. I had also tried Tyron and he was fantastic too. They are very well skilled. The only place in L.A. that's below $200 but worth it.
Louise Moon does the BEST hair extensions in Los Angeles.
I have had extensions for 6 years now. I have found that Great Lengths is the best system for me. I want the best hair and feel of attachments i can get. I was recommended highly to see Louise Moon at the John Frieda Salon as she has done many celebrities hair extensions and has an incredible eye for color and what is needed for the end result. I have a very sensitive scalp and she is the only one i found who is GENTLE!!! I also found out that she is also a freelance stylist who also does print work in the celebrity and fashion business.So i got not only fantastic extensions but also a creative look that suited me. She is a fantastic haircutter (which is were the magic comes in) I can't tell you how many times my extensions were ruined because i got a lousy haircut from someone who does not know how to cut extensions even though they say they do!!! I can't tell you how important that is.. there is a difference.. anyways, for someone who has done as much as she has,she is very grounded and warm and she will make you feel like one of her celebrities.
p.s. She is now doing the new Fast Fusion system!!! It applies 10 extensions in 13 seconds!!!! She is the only one in Los Angeles doing it. That means 2 hours!!!!!
loved it. I figured I should write a reveiw to describe my great experience at this salon, because I left there feeling wonderful. I felt the customer service was impeccable and my overall experience was great. I would absolutely recommend it to all my friends. In this case anyway, I got what I payed for.

Nothing but the BEST. When you step into a salon like John Frieda you expect nothing but the best which is what I experienced with stylist Michael St.Germain. I explained to Michael that I was bored with my hair and needed a makeover and that's exactly what I got!! I have never received so many compliments as I have with my new look. Not only is Michael St.Germain one of the best stylist I have ever seen, he's also one of the best looking ;-)
Star service without the attitude-what more can a girl want?.
I've read both wildy enthusiastic and grumbly thumbs down on this salon, so I feel I must toss in my two cents.
I chose this salon based on the recommendation of a pal about 6 years ago...that pal always seems to know the right people, the innest professionals, but in previous visits to some of her rec's I've had varying degrees of satisfaction. I'm not super young, skinny or hip(well, the hipness factor probably outweighs the others for me, luckily-I've got at least a trace of that), and frankly I was trepidatious that I might get some less-than-cozy vibes at such a chic, celebrity-driven salon.
Not so! First, the space is gorgeous--small, but so pretty and relaxing just to hang in--and when you're getting color here, you will be waiting around, so that's a huge plus. The stylists and receptionists, elite types all, have always been unfailingly gracious, sweet, attentive and on the ball--even on those really, really bad hair days when I've been sweating and swearing at the traffic(I live in Pasadena)and look a hot mess walking in in my Lee jeans and tatty sneakers. NO snobbery at all.
That's one of two things that's kept me coming back year after year. the otherand the most important, naturally, is the high quality of the cuts and color I receive here. Every. Single. Visit. has resulted in many compliments afterwards and I leave to browse nearby Melrose and 3rd streets feeling like a millionairess. Add to that that the prices are in my opinion quite reasonable.
I do dread the drive across Hollywood to get there, but it's worth it in the end. I believe everyone they employ is superb--whichever is available is going to give you a cut or shade worth every penny. Go, be confident you'll look gorgeous--and enjoy!
I WOULD NEVER COME BACK TO THIS SALON. It was my first time to get a cut in this salon, and my LAST! The receptionist was very rude. After the stylist asked my what kind of style I wanted, he was approached by his assistant that he needed to take care of his client who just came late to the salon. He made me wait for at least 15 minutes after I was being seated while he was working on his late client's hair. I know I should have say something at the time. After he's done with his late client, he proceed doing my hair. I had showed him a style that I wanted in a book, but I don't think he knew how to cut it. When he told me he was done cutting my hair, I was very surprised because I didn't feel I had a haircut at all! I was very disappointed and I would never go back there again! I think the person who cut my hair doesn't work there anymore. You don't have to pay a lot of money to get a good cut. Just because an old client walk in to the salon, that doesn't mean he need to take her first before the new client. Overall the salon has a really bad service!

I appologise that you feel your experience with us was not a pleasant one. We are a salon with a large celebrity clientelle, but our goal is that everybody that leaves here feels like one.
I wish i had slightest idea who you are, since you must have been in the salon recently i would love the opportunity to rectify any problems or even reinburse you. I would have thought that judging by the anger in your scathing report about me and the salon, that i would have had an inclination to your dislike of my work when you were in my chair, or at least some comment to management about your dissapproval when paying and tipping for services.
