The Scene – Perhaps L.A.'s pre-eminent luxury accommodation, Hotel Bel-Air has been a haven for society dowagers and paparazzi-scorning celebrities since opening in 1940. Oil baron and Bel-Air Estates founder Alphonso E. Bell originally constructed the building for office space. Years later, it was converted into this grand estate worthy of a multimillion-dollar tycoon. – – The Details – Guests enter via a miniature bridge which crosses the hotel's signature Swan Lake; cascading waterfalls and a crowning bell tower complete the idyllic serenity. - The Extras:
- Table One is not a restaurant, but a one-table room inside the kitchen for the hotel's favorite guests, where diners can watch the chef prepare their meals. Scoring a reservation is next to impossible--for common folk, at least.

A wonderful oasis in the hills of Bel Air
by 1Trish1
What I love is the serenity and the calmness that welcomes you when you arrive. The swans and all the greenery remind you of a place far away. The doormen were so kind to park my not-so fancy car, even though I spent at least 3 hours for a lunch date. The restaurant is fabulous, again, so many nooks and corners and interesting how the food is served. So perfect and attentive, extremely friendly as well, not at all pretentious like you see in movies. The food was well prepared, fresh and flavorful.
Best night I've ever spent in a hotel...period.

I've stayed in business and luxury hotels all over the country, and this was by far the best all-around service I've ever received...period.
From the moment I pulled up to the valet to the moment I reluctantly left, I felt like royalty. The staff was attentive and, dare I say, delightful. Some of them have been there for decades. They seem to love what they do, and it shows.
Excellent food, awesome rooms, perfect service. The location makes you forget you're in L.A.
I'd rather spend one night there than three somewhere else. I agree with the reviewer above, the only con that I found was that I can't stay forever!
terriable afternoon tea service
by fhovsepian
We went there for an afternoon tea and what an awful mistake. Poor service and it was anything but a "real" afternoon tea. We were there for an hour and it was miserable. They did not have a good choice of teas, the sandwiches were awful the pastry were not just bought from store and dumped on the tray. We paid $90 for two and the worst tea we had ever!!! Save you money
undisputed #1 hotel in LA
by amandachen
The Hotel Bel-Air is by far the most luxurious hotel in all of LA. I've stayed at the top 5 listed for Los Angeles and nothing comes close to The Hotel Bel-Air in all areas of service, comfort, ambience, etc. There's a reason why Oprah Winfrey called it one of her favorite places to stay in the world! If you're looking for luxury, don't even bother going anywhere else in LA.
Heaven on Earth
by trigirl21
This is by far, the most private, peaceful retreat ever. The service is second to none throughout the entire hotel. Everyone is treated like a star by all of the staff and given the most courteous and personal attention. The linens are beyond fabulous and the old world feeling in the lounge makes this beautiful, botanical wonder a not to be missed experience!
- Pros: Garden setting, Extremely Private, Courtesy and service
- Cons: Don't want to leave
