Editorial Review for Washington Park Arboretum – by Citysearch Editors

In Short
The Washington Park Arboretum is co-maintained by the city of Seattle and the University of Washington. More than 4,000 labeled species of trees, flowers and other florae are planted in this 200-acre public park. Along with several jogging trails, the park features water access, a gift shop and a three-acre Japanese garden (planted in 1960 by famous Japanese landscaper, Juki Iida).

The Arboretum is a paradise for those with a need for green. What a delight! It has such a wide variety of amazing trees, shrubs, flowers and a good squirrel population to boot. Perfect place for picnics and daydreaming.

I visited the park while attending a convention, and found it very satisfying. Well-kept, with nearby parking and clearly worthy of a visit, even on a crowded agenda. Probably the most unique feature is the small Japanese garden, with twists and turns, to give you a unique experience, if you're not from an area where this sort of park exists.

Pros: Free, Parking, Access
