Great cuts for Asian hair. I usually only frequent Japanese salons as I've somehow managed to convince myself over the years that only Asians can handle Asian hair. Well, a friend of mine came out a few nights ago with a perm done at Umberto and she looked amazing. I decided to try it out and I have to say that my hair looks amazing. I have very fine, thin hair so perms usually don't come out for me, but when I expressed my concern, my stylist (I forgot his name!) played with my hair for awhile, then assured me it would be alright. I actually have wavy hair now. I will definitely be going back here.

A treat! You'll always look good coming out of here. I can't go to Umbertos all the time but when I do, I know I'm in for a treat. I probably get a cut and color twice a year here because the prices are up there but there is a visible difference in terms of the results.

I get chemical (not vegetable) coloring and when I get it here it doesn't wash out right away and only will lose color if I spend too many hours in the sun (takes a while and they have sold me products to protect my hair from the sun).

The stylists here really know what they're doing and they are great about looking at a picture and being able to give you what you want based on it.

It is an ultra high end luxury salon but lives up to its name and reputation.

John Vance saved me. I went to Umberto to get a haircut, When I got there I had a consultation with the manager Babette who is wonderful. She introduced me to John Vance, I swear we were instantly in love with each other. I have never met a person who could make me feel so good about myself so quickly. Not only did He "get" what I wanted right away but he executed it perfectly as well. I asked him about color and he did not pressure me at all. And I went back for highlights and they are wonderful as well. My hair has never looked better and I feel so good when I leave his chair. Go see him!

John Vance is Wonderful. I set up this profile just to review My favorite hairdresser and one of the best people I've ever met.

I have been going to John Vance for Years and all of my Friends go to him as well. He is so Great it's hard to even put into words. I have been living on the East coast for a couple years now and have just moved back to L.A. And first thing I did was make an Appt. with JOHN! Not only does My hair look better than ever but, John is even better! He is always improving his talent and it shows so much. He really cares so much about hair and his clients. I can Honestly say that I love him as a person and a hairdresser. Thank You to John Vance.

Looking for a Great Hairdresser? Try John Vance. John Vance HAS IT ALL!! He is loaded with personality, talent, and skill. He is a master at color correction and totally trashed hair, so imagine what he can do with normal boring hair!! His highlights are beautiful and natural, his color and cuts are amazing and he is the "King of the Updo".

John always has time to listen, suggest a new color or cut "recharge" for my hairdo and is a cheerful pleasure to add to my day. I discovered John Vance early in his 16-year career with Umberto and he now has a wealth of experience to add to his natural talent. I am often asked where I go for my hair and eagerly recommend John Vance at Umbertos.

JOHN VANCE!. I just recently was recommended to try a new hairdresser by My friend. I was kind of scared and intimidated by the whole idea. My friend goes to John Vance at Umberto canon. When i first went to the salon I was so intimidated pretty woman style. But, John vance really made me so comfortable. In addition to making Me laugh so hard I cried he gave me the best Color i've ever had. It looks so expensive and it really wasn't that pricey. For beautiful color and a great smile go see John Vance right away!

The Best Salon in LA. I fly into Umberto's from Colorado simply because I can have a cut from Umberto and it lasts for 4 months. Aside from knowing that this is an upscale setting, and expecting service, kindness, and pampering, Umberto's has the customer dialed in to perfection. It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Some of the comments here describe LA as having salons "a dime a dozen", however, as a person who was born and raised in LA it is so hard to find service where the customer is treated as the most important person on earth. I think a lot of this is attitude; you treat people how you want to be treated yourself. I'm always impressed by how the front staff, the gals that wash, the young girl who takes your jacket and gives you a number, to the espresso team always do their jobs with a smile and treat you with respect.

Aside from getting an LA fix and rubbing shoulders with beautiful, fashionable people, Umberto knows how to cut thick, curly, unruly, waivy, and impossible hair. The bottom line is this salon has longevity in their talent and to me, that speaks volumes.

DISLIKE!. Ugh, I walked out of there a redhead even though I specifically asked to go blonde. Hair salons are a dime a dozen in Beverly Hills, save your coin and go somewhere else. I am NOT at all happy with my hair color. Yet, after speaking with both the stylist and the salon manager, it still ended up costing a premium price. After speaking with both the stylist Steve and the salon manager, that my hair color was not at all we discussed - they each tried to convince me that my base was not red. And 'additional highlights' would make it blonde. Yes, that would be blonde highlights on a red base.... I walked out (after they charged my credit card, full amount) on the verge of TEARS!

Erin McRitchie is a hair artist. I have been going to Erin McRitchie (formerly Erin Johnson) for years. She is a master at color and cuts. She is creative without being pretentious, and I have never walked out of Umberto's unhappy. She seems to know what will look good on you and what style will fit your lifestyle. If you know what you want, she will give it to you. If you don't know exactly, she is open to offering her suggestions. Perfect.
