Tips for Arclight Sherman Oaks

May 11, 2010

Citysearch Editorial Review. Located in the Sherman Oaks Galleria, this multiplex has all the modern amenities moviegoers have come to expect. Reserved seating? No problem. Pick your seats ahead of time, print the tickets and forget about waiting in line. (Although you can kick it old school and buy tickets directly at the "departure board" if that's your thing.) Comfortable seats? You bet. The plush recliners offer three extra inches of seating space compared to other theaters and the adjustable armrests allow you to cozy up next to your partner. (If you want to, that is.) Gourmet concessions? Absolutely. Choose from popcorn with (real) butter, fresh-made caramel corn, apple-sage chicken sausages and plenty of candy. There's also an onsite cafe and bar (which, incidentally, provides cocktails for the special 21+ screenings) and a cool gift shop. Once you're in, get ready for the ushers to guide you to your seat and introduce each screening with a short speech.

Very Convenient. It would be hard for me to go back to watching a movie at a regular theater. We picked out our seats in advance and the theater was well-kept.

This type of venue is for people who want to keep it simple, no fuss and want convenience. Seems the other movie goers were of the same demographics. No long lines.....no drama.

What if your running late?. First time at the Arclight Sherman Oaks......and my last.

They advertised a 12:35am showing....So I called and asked if we showed up ten minutes late would they sell us tickets, they said yes. When we got there the real answer was NO with a point to the door and a hearty laugh at our expense. The Grove sells tickets 25 minutes after the last show starts. The Bridge sells tickets 30 minutes after the last show starts. I was surprised that, in this economy, extra money was not important to this theater. There are so many other theaters that want my money.....I am done with the Arclight. A friend said I should have bought the tickets on-line, but when I went to explain why I had not, I felt like House at a differential. If you are going to see a 12:35am movie and you decide to see it after midnight, you can NOT by on-line tickets for that show. The systems setup says it is the next day, wile the theater says it is the previous day......hence no way to buy the ticket. Try it some time. Wait now there is more (added edit). I was talked into giving them another chance. This time we sent someone ahead (early) to get the tickets and snacks. After purchasing everything the person was told they could not leave the ticket at the front desk or come out of the theater to the lobby to give the late people their tickets ten minutes after the movie started. WHAT??? I was blown way. They would rather give back the more than $60 in tickets and snacks than keep customers who just want to see a movie and are willing to miss the first ten minutes to see it. I tried to talk to a manager so I could understand the logic, but no one would talk to me. I feel sorry for the investors in this theater chain. If you are going to pretend that you are an upscale movie house.......service should be the top priority. Treating your customers like they are grade school children late for a class is not the way to increase sales. Locking out paying customers because they are ten minutes past your schedule is a bit absurd. They are not running a bus line, plane or train that has to leave the station. The employees are still being paid to stand around until the movie is over, why turn away the customer?

Good Date. Loved the experience! Large screens, comfortable seating, clean restrooms. A bit crowded at times so assigned seating is a plus. Best to valet park if you want to avoid a long walk back to the car. Nice restaurants... do yourself a favor and make reservations during peak hours.... and live entertainment in the courtyard.

You've Got to be Kidding. Okay, I enjoy the fact that I can purchase my tickets online and print them from my printer....I like it.

My wife and I along with our friends went to see "Watchmen" today 3-7-09. My pal Dan bought me and my wife popcorn and drink which was awesome, he's cool like that. When the snack bar worker asked me if I wanted butter on my popcorn I responded with a 'yes', but very, very light butter. I get to my seat and the movie starts. My wife and start eating the popcorn and we're enjoying the butter until we get to the center of the bucket - and we're still tasting a very heavy butter taste. I walked just outside the auditorium to see how much butter was actually put on. This freakin' guy had put so much butter on my popcorn that there was a thick layer of it coating the bottom of the bucket. EFFIN' GROSS'!!!

When the movie was over I took the bucket back to the snack bar and allowed the manager, Troy, to see what my complaint was all about. I told him that I was dissatisfied with the popcorn and that I wanted my friends money to give back to him. He asked me if he could re-fill it for me to my liking. I said that the entire situation of there being too much butter ruined my appetite and that I would simply like my friends money refunded to him. Troy told me that if I would have come to tell him sooner that he would be able to give my friend his money back, but since it was after the movie he couldn't.

I nearly exploded with anger all over him. I said to him that it doesn't matter at what time I'm not satisfied with the purchase! The fact is, I AM NOT SATISFIED!!!!! SO GIVE ME MY MONEY!!!!!!

He didn't give me my money back - so now I'm letting everyone know that Arclight Cinemas is not the place to go if you want someone to understand that you had an employee that cannot understand what the difference between heavy and light butter is!!! Stay away from Arclight!!!! MORONS!! MORONS!! MORONS!!

Best Bar View!. Arclight is the new wave of movie theater experiences. With assigned seating and impeccable standards for movie viewing, you don't have to worry about waiting in line for hours to possibly get a horrible seat or split off from your friends. Knowing that your seat is secure and just where you want it, you can relax and have a cocktail or bite to eat in their restaurant and bar. And with the 405 and 101 racing by practically next to you it's one of the best bar views in the city! Who knew traffic could be so calming and interesting!

The bar here is one of my favorite new places to frequent! The atmosphere is very inviting and calm, the view fantastic, and the bartenders are super friendly and make some mean drinks! Really a great lil hidden find in the valley!

won't go back. Before the switch over, the seats were really comfy and the front section reclined to make the best seats in the house. Now the seats thrust your head forward and they don't tilt back. They also got the showtime wrong on the website, so everyone who bought their tickets online had to wait an extra half hour! And I personally don't like being hovered over by swarms of staff and ushers, having to carry my ticket everywhere and being told by a teenager with a microphone what movie I've decided to see. And all for a mere $2 extra over the old price... what a deal! If you like airports, you'll love this place.

The Best of the Best. The best facilities in generals, best seating, audio, friendly staff.

Great parking, lots of restaurants for "after the movie".

Places like this keep me away from renting movies.

PREPARE TO VALET OR WALK. These are GREAT theatres once you get into them. Massive screens. Plushy seats and ultra high stadium seatings. DRAWBACK>>>>>unless you valet park you must park at the opposite end of the Galeria and walk through all the way to Ventura blvd. If that's cool...the theatres are great.

Very nice and BIG screens!. I have to say that the screens are nice, sound and picture quality are great, you could get a great view from almost any place on the theater, but the parking is horrible it takes a while to park and then you have to walk forever to get to the theater, so if you have to see a movie please allow at least 30 minutes to park and walk to the theater
