Editorial Review for Pantages Theatre – by Citysearch Editors

in Short
Since opening in 1930, this glittering theater has served as a movie palace, music hall and all-around venue for big-budget productions. Founder Alexander Pantages (of the Fox Theatre chain) originally stacked the bill with MGM flicks and vaudeville acts, but center stage eventually gave way to live theater. The Pantages underwent a major restoration in preparation for the L.A. run of "The Lion King," bringing back the magnificent art deco gleam that had been covered by years of tarnish and deterioration.

I love the Pantages. If you're going to see a show in LA, I say see it here. This is truly one of my favorite places in LA: Great Ambience, not a bad seat in the house, and one of the coolest interiors of any theatre you've ever been in, it's like going back in time. In any case, don't take my word for it, check it out!

I've been going to the Pantages since I was a teenager in the 80's when I saw "Beatlemania" . Most recently, I saw Wicked here only a couple of months ago, and I'll be going again in August. The restoration project brought the theater back to its wonderfully designed and gilded self. From the details in the lobby to the comfortable red velvet chairs in the the theatre, they did a marvelous job. Best of all, I've never had a bad seat here. Even if you never see a show here...they do architectural tours. It's definitely worth seeing.
