What People Are Saying About Ahmanson Theatre

In Short – Unlike its Music Center counterpart, the Mark Taper Forum, the Ahmanson Theatre has been known, since its opening in 1967, as a home for more mainstream theatrical productions. These have included successful runs of plays by the likes of Neil Simon, August Wilson and Wendy Wasserstein, along with several world premieres. The 2,071-seat theater underwent a major renovation in the mid-'90s and now offers variable seating arrangements, improved acoustics and sight lines, and a refurbished lobby. – –

Best Big Theatre Experience in LA
by Pheelmore at Citysearch
The Ahmanson is a great place for theater, musicals, plays and events. I enjoy going there for the star perfomrances and when stars aren't on stage I know I'll still get a good show. I've seen most of the musicals, and some of the plays. Good service too. Check it out.
Good programming, easy viewing and real box seats
by museum_flavor at Citysearch
The quality of the shows at the Ahmanson is such that even the shows I haven't enjoyed all that much have still been well-produced. While larger than the Mark Taper, I have found that visibility is still quite good from anywhere in the house and I was pleased to note that the box seats are actual box seats--some theaters have done away with those altogether. The programming tends towards the more traditional--big names in terms of both productions and actors--but I always look forward to seeing at least a few shows there every season. I also appreciate that there are adequate bathroom facilities!
- Pros: strong programming, easy parking, plenty of bathrooms
- Cons: parking is not cheap
A Nice Evening

I saw Les Miserables here, and I enjoyed watching it at the Ahmanson. The surroundings was nice, but we sat in the back and toward the side. I was a little disappointed with the seats and with the usher we were talking to - we wanted to make sure we were in the correct area.
The performance was outstanding, and we had a fun evening. Parking was a little chore for me because I was not familiar with the area around the Ahmanson that much.

This is a great place to enjoy a major musical production. The view and the acoustics are excellent. It's just a great way to enjoy an evening near Downtown LA.
