The Background – Founded in 1771, San Gabriel is one of 21 famous missions Father Serra set up in California. The building originally housed sleeping quarters and workshops for the mission fathers. In its restored form, it now displays native artifacts of the Shoshone people, otherwise known as the "Gabrielenos."
