In Short – Every inch of Andre Balazs' Standard hotel is an exercise in surreal chic--from the scantily clad woman sleeping in the glass case behind the front desk to the fish hanging from the lounge ceiling. Lounge gracefully at the tables inside or saunter out to the inflatable couches in lobby, which is carpeted floor to ceiling in white shag. You can enjoy sweeping views of the entire L.A. basin from the Astro Turfed pool deck, which is usually draped with fabulous and bored young smokers.

Stunning view on downtown

by doll83 at Citysearch

First we had dinner at the restaurant downstairs and later on we went up to the hotel's deck bar. It was a Tuesday night, around 10pm and the lounge and bar were pretty much crowded. The cozy arranged lounge offers a fire pit, a pool and various nooks and snuggly spots to settle back and relax with a stunning view overlooking downtown. During the day patrons and hotel guests are invited to hang out in the pool.

Take a sweater with you it could get chilly at night.

  • Pros: Ambience, view, crowd
  • Cons: Private events on weekends, over priced drinks and menu

Great Customer Service, Great Drinks, Great DJ

by killakali03 at Citysearch

Well after being rejected at Area for what was obvious racism, I wasn't exspecting much from Bar at the Standard. Basically if your a girl you can walk right in, and for guys as long as your 21 and over and dressed decently your in ( unless there is a wait). It's a great alternative The Standards equally as nice Roofbar. The wait staff and bartenders are friendly, and the DJ's reotate so you get a good mix of very good music. This is one of those place that youhave so much fun that you loose track of time plus is on the strip and close to other locations.

  • Pros: Valet Parking, Other great locations within the same hotel, right on the sunset strip, drinks, service
  • Cons: Some nights it can be a little dead since it's so close to other bars

The Extras:

If you're too schnockered to drive home, nab one of the surprisingly affordable rooms (they start at $99).

Know Before You Go:

You can host a unique soiree at the Standard's private bar and lounge--it even has a separate entrance at the side of the hotel. Pool a bunch of friends to share the cost; it makes a great spot for a birthday, holiday party or New Year's rager.
