Chocolate Bar Editorial Review
The Scene
If you gotta get your groove on, but don't like overly libidinous crowds, Chocolate Bar will satisfy you like a king-sized Snickers. Every Saturday night, the usually low-key and underground Gabah turns into the hottest "House Party" in town. DJ's Higher and Daz dig into their eclectic crates to find the perfect blend of hip-hop, reggae, break beat and old-school to keep the head-nodding, shoulder-shrugging party people on their toes. Special guests like Cut Chemist usually pop up for impromptu performances.
The Draw
The great thing about the West Coast hip-hop scene is its diversity. There is simply no drama at places like these. No fronts. No faces. Just fun. The crowds are representative of a United Nations-like mix of Kangol-wearing urban scenesters and b-boys and girls from both the Westside and the Valley--all sharing a love for the music and its culture.
