Editorial Review for Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel – by Lilla Zuckerman
The Scene
The historic dining room is lush with dark green and cream-striped walls, massive leather booths and a theatrical patio where diners nosh among flowering vines, shocking-pink archways and a gorgeous knotted oak tree. Large, round tables of power brokers, lunching socialites and moneyed international playboys are the real view.
The Food
With a place so full of glitz and glamour, the extravagantly priced Cal-Asian cuisine seems secondary. The chilled duck salad bursts with tangy citrus dressing, but the over-roasted duck breast is leathery. Seared ahi tuna is a superior piece of fish, but could lose the bland, grainy sesame crust. Red-meat fanatics can rejoice: A perfectly grilled T-bone steak is juicy and divine, and the $36 Kobe-style burger's charred and gamey beef is so tasty, it's perfect totally plain. The traditionally elegant brunch features favorites like French toast paired with sour cranberries and crispy pecans.

It is much easier to write a good review than an indifferent one. I took an associate there for a business lunch. We were both uninspired. We had to ask for a wine list. It should be routinely given. The list was mostly overpriced imports. Welcome to California! Our food was cold by the time it arrived. (I hate to ask that the soup be reheated) The rest of our meal was good; not great for the price. I really don’t want to seem picky but……………………. Sometimes it is better to say nothing. Perhaps that is why there are so few reviews about this restaurant. Always end on a nice note: The service was quite good.

This place is more about the scene than the food. Live music with a pretty out door garden would be nice to look upon if it weren't filled with chain smokers. The food is typical american with accents here and there but nothing spectacular. For the money you can get better food elsewhere, however it is a scene worth checking out for a drink.
Pros: scene
Cons: smokers
