Editorial Review for Tower Records – by Arthur Brennan
In Short
Sure, you'll find the usual rock and pop fodder on CD and cassette (with a small vinyl section for the connoisseur), a variety of entertainment magazines, and the occasional music-related DVD or promotional toy. But the real draw is the people-watching. Celeb sightings are an everyday occurrence and CD signings include the industry's biggest names (Aerosmith, Jennifer Lopez, Brian Wilson) as well as parking lot concerts by the likes of Rod Stewart, Duran Duran and Weezer.

Insider Tips
ParkingThere are two parking lots at Tower Sunset: a small area just outside of the store and another, larger space one block east on Sunset Boulevard. On weekends, save yourself a headache and just head for the latter lot.
Fun FactLegend has it that Guns 'N Roses frontman Axl Rose once rumbled with Motley Crue's Vince Neil in the parking lot.
Know Before You GoYou've probably heard by now that Tower Records is going out of business. Although it's uncertain when this location will close for good, call before you go to be sure.

Like most Tower locations, this store carries current hits and who's hot. They rarely have hard-to-find items, but can order almost anything for you. As others have stated, this location is best for celebrity spottings (as is most of the Sunset Strip), it's signings and music performances. If you're looking for the latest from an obscure (non-mainstream) artist, you'll have better luck looking elsewhere. The staff here is usually helpful and friendly, but they don't go out of their way to be accommodating. It's convenient for me, as I work nearby...and I recently purchased a nice set of headphones for my computer at a reasonable price. It's definitely worth a visit, if only to view the cover art for recent releases...and the possible sighting of celebrities who live on the hills above Sunset.

While not as good as Amoeba (which is a few miles down the road), this Tower Records does have better live performances. Sonic Youth. New York Dolls. Need I say more?
