What People Are Saying About Kate Mantilini

In Short – Deal-making ICM execs rub elbows with other industry types and well-heeled locals inside this modern take on a classy 1940s diner. Intimate booths provide privacy for some, while stools around the counter are left to newbies. A greasy spoon-meets-silver spoon menu is full of comfort foods, like chicken sandwiches on grilled rosemary bread, meat loaf and the house-specialty, white chili, thick with chicken, beans, melted cheese and rice. Candy-bar ice cream pie is a signature dessert.
Editor's Tips
- Know Before You Go:
- Brunchers, take note: The restaurant will happily accommodate any special diet by using nonfat milk, egg whites or vegetable spray. Just ask your server.
- Look Good:
- The word "Heat," spelled out in neon above the door, refers to the eatery's role as a location in the 1995 movie of the same name.
- Save Time:
- There's often a crowd lined up to eat, especially on the weekend. Groups of six or more, however, can make reservations and avoid the wait.

Expensive.....................................
by Mrstewie
Although it is very expensive, I is so good you feel like it's worth it. I've been going there since... I don't know how long, but they have food from everywhere in the country.
Downhill
by TDI870
This place has very much gone down hill, I used to come here every week for business lunches, but the food is no longer how I remembered it. I am also perplexed as to why prices keep rising, or why people come into their doors? I suppose its because its close to a lot of places on Wilshire. As for me, time to find a new place for my weekly lunches.
gone seriously downhill

We've been going to Kate's for years. We like the room and the service, and we used to enjoy the food. But the menu hasn't really changed in at least fifteen years, except for the rising prices, and the quality of the food has gone so steadily downhill that we can't ignore how bad it's become. Burned sausages, soggy fries, dried-out meatloaf, overcooked pasta. Even though it's convenient to screenings, we can no longer coax friends to join us here, and we're reluctantly following suit -- no more Kate's.
Overrated 'hamburger hamlet' diner
by luvlee2
So we wanted to catch a movie near by and haven't been here in a few years.....well now I know why.....the attitude is ugly....and snooty. The menu has many choices but the food is so over- rated and over-priced and our waiter was constantly pushing us to order a drink. We shared a salad (it was good) then we had the worst turkey (dog-food) burgers with a piece of lettuce, no fries or anything else for $16.00 each!!! The quality, size and taste was just horrible. Our waiter never asked us how everything was.....he probably just wanted us to eat, tip him and have someone else in his booth. We would never go to this 'overrated' establishment again, ....well maybe when we are gray-haired and use a walker....as it seems most of the clientele at this restaurant were...
Unforgettable garlic mashed pots & porkchops!
by Lees
Having left the lovely State of CA 14 yrs. ago, I've still not forgotten KM's pork chops & garlic mashed potatoes!!! The absolute best flavor and perfectly cooked dish ever! I miss them still so very much.
- Pros: Quality, atmosphere, location
- Cons: Immediate seating for well known, not general public
