hardly as good chicken, good zankou, good garlic sauce, like chicken place, fantastic meal, not great decor, best beef
zankou chicken.
not the best zankou chicken location (there are several).
still food is great and priced reasonable. love the shaworma beef !
The best Middle Eastern fast food. Cheap, great food. The hummus is excellent, and my favorite is beef shawerma. Incredibly tasty. No frills, just great food.
Soooooo, Very Good!. I would highly recommend Zankou, the chicken is always just perfect and the portions are generous. The ethnic foods of LA are one of reasons that traffic is tolerable. Zankou stands out for it?s simple and yet perfect menu. From high school kids to film raters J (This Film Is Not Yet Rated) to working professionals there is something for everyone. I visit the Zankou in Glendale, one of the originals, so the decor is not great and it is really a get it and go type place, but the parking is fair and there is a great bakery in the same center. I would say try it today, you will not be disappointed!
Zankou is good for you!!. We've been frequenting this great chicken place for more than 15 years. Before they started sprouting up all over Los Angeles, this was one of the originals. Who can say no to hot roasted chicken that melts in your mouth and that garlic sauce/spread stuff. Not sure why people would go anywhere else for roasted chicken. It's definitely the best. The atmosphere here is like any of the others, very take-out. But the staff is always friendly.
Chicken & garlic sauce lives up to the hype. Many of my friends have sang the praises for Zankou chicken and it's well deserved. While many customers opt for the half chicken served with pita bread and pickles, my favorite is the chicken tarna wrap: perfectly marinated chicken nestled with the restaurant's signature creamy garlic sauce in a toasty pita. All chicken is roasted on a-spit inhouse which gives it a crispy skin and a deliciously moist texture. The garlic sauce is the real reason to visit Zankou, I've never tasted anything quite like it. This location is in the same plaza as the Baklava Factory, be sure to swing by to complete your Middle Eastern dining experience.
Armenian roasted chicken that's finger-licking good..
The Scene
Zankou Chicken isn't much to look at: a narrow slice in an unremarkable strip mall. But the glowing critical accolades Zankou has garnered--blown up, framed and proudly displayed--foreshadow fabulous fare that will quickly make you forget the orange Formica and faux-wood paneled ambiance.
The Food
Spit-roasted chicken attracts most of the attention, and deservedly so. Tender, moist and permeated with flavor, it's rotisserie roasted to crisp perfection. But the rest of the menu easily meets or beats the bird. Soujouk is an Armenian beef sausage that takes the term spicy to new heights--not simply hot, it's a marvelous melange of fiery flavors combined with subtler nuances. The tarna sandwich (chunks of spit roasted chicken slices) much milder though no less complex. Then there are the sides--tabbouleh, hummus, zippy stuffed grape leaves and a divinely addictive mutabbal (baba ghanouj).
Yummy fast food.... addicting garlic sauce. We always joke that we all have to eat at Zankou together so that all of us can tolerate the smell like garlic together. Zankou's garlic sauce is sooo good, but you will smell like garlic for at least 4 hours or so. The roasted chicken is moist and very flavorful, but it is on the fatty side. I would recommend the tarna or shwarma if you like your meat a little leaner. Sandwiches are filling and their plates are big enough to share or for two meals. Make sure to ask for extra pita bread so that you can eat it with the garlic sauce.
User review by fermi. I think perhaps the driest chicken I have ever had. The garlic sauce on the side was good, though.
Absolutely Addicting!. I stumbled upon the Hollywood location of Zankou chicken one rainy night and it has been one of my most fortuitous L.A. finds! The Chicken Tarna plate is so good I have to restrain myself from eating it twice a day. Their hummus, tahini, salad, and chicken make up the best combination you will find in Los Angeles. But add their garlic sauce and you suddenly have the best Mediterranean food in the country.
Most scrumptuous chicken!. The chicken here is always tender and moist and the garlic that they give to go with it rocks! The meals are always filling and I've never been disappointed.
