In Short – This popular two-story club has a cafe-style terrace with heat lamps for smokers and stargazers, and three bars for people-watching. Each night spotlights a different DJ spinning old-school tracks, uplifting house and Latin beats. Monday's Alternative Night is a long-standing tradition, with DJ Steven Cunningham playing underground sounds with an alternative slant, and Tuesday's Funktion packs in the 18 and over crowd with a mix of hip-hop, R&B and funk. –
Not all the rage anymore...
by passion4life at Citysearch
I went to Rage last Saturday nite for the first time in two years, and I was very disappointed. It was supposed to be a nite celebrating the music of Britney and Lady Gaga, but instead of playing their songs in their unadulterated forms, the DJ messed them all up with a lot of background noise that made songs like Poker Face and Radar hardly recognizable at first. And there weren't even any video screens in operation to go with the music. But videos wouldn't have worked in sync with the music anyway, since the DJ messed up the songs so much.
As far as the crowd goes, there's the usual attitude that you'll find at a WeHo gay club (especially with the younger, more insecure gays), but I didn't even see anyone who was that hot to compensate for that. And there were no gogo dancers either. However, I did leave at 11:30 pm, so maybe it got better later at midnite.
I think Micky's (down the street) would have been a better choice this night, because there was much more happening there, they had gogo dancers and a better crowd overall. And if you go for the 18-25 crowd, I think Tigergheat is much better than Rage. The DJ at Tigerheat is much better than the one they had at Rage this Saturday nite, and the people there are more attractive, with less attitude.
I last went to Rage in 2007 (during Pride) and it was much better then. I had also been to Rage in previous years when it was much better than this past Saturday nite.
But I have to admit that this review is based upon my visit just this last Saturday nite, so the club might be better on other nights. I certainly hope so. If not, they need to do something to fix it.
- Pros: the setting
