view & uploadlove place, rude service, cool people, pretty nice staff, good service, like great location, great neighborhood bar
It aint Beverly Hills. Love this place, generous with the drinks and food. Service is great but you will have get you ass off the couch and order at the bar its not TGI Fridays. Its Melrose from the old days laid back easy going great place to hangout with friends and the food is great.
Great place to grab an ice cold beer during a lazy Saturday. Funny I almost did not find this place on City Search having only known it as The Snake Pit. This is a great neighborhood bar to grab a quick Happy Hour or a an ice cold beer during a lazy Saturday. The place is small but the staff is all around pretty nice. They boast a fairly large menu for a small kitchen and having only had the disappointing veggie tacos once, I can't really vouch for the food. So stick to a drink and grab a seat in the window to watch the Melrose parade go by!
Twenty beers on tap Great Pizza and Burgers!.
When we walked in they have this projector screen TV thats in your face to watch games!!
We were were in bar heaven!! The bar display went way up to the ceiling, the drinks are reasonably priced and so is the food, my date had the burger which she loved and I had the pizza which put me in shock cause it was HUGE. I had to take some home cause it could feed three people @ six something a pop .
They have this makeout couch where we ended up!!!!!!!!!!!!
We drove by it twice cause its low key with a neighborhood bar vibe
For me the best bar of it's type in the local - and I tried a good few.. 1st post - just had to come to the defence of The Pit. When I moved to Melrose from the UK a few years back I was desperate to find a local unpretentious bar I could feel at home in. The day I walked into the pit I knew I had found it. It is a without question a regulars bar and it may be fair to say they don?t put out the bunting for strangers but there is a method to the madness. If you put in the time you can find yourself welcomed into a wonderfully eclectic group of interesting people and for me that is what this bar is about. That and a great selection of beers, an internet linked jukebox and the finest Buffalo wings I tasted in 2 years in LA. The bar staff have all been there for ever and sure, if (particularly) T or Marina are having a bad day you may know about it, but for me that just makes it all the more real, no pretensions or false niceness and amongst all that is fake close by, I love the place for that. If you are the type to think it is acceptable to talk on your cell whilst trying to get served though, you could be waiting a long time.
this place does not have a good vibe. the service here is rude and not friendly. unbelievably calous and unfriendly wait staff and bar tenders. not a good vibe. don't expect to be treated with respect here.
Bad Service and Crowded Atmosphere. The service at The Snake Pit is dreadful. The bar staff rarely serves you in a timely manner, and generally the bar and wait staff is not friendly and inattentive. Great location for a bar like this - horribly poor and substandard service.
Keep it Simple, Stupid. Look, this place is what it is... A hole in the wall. The drinks are cheap and heavy. The vibe is the opposite of pretentious. Most importantly, the entertainment is EACH-OTHER. If you want to roll into a place where you can get served, hang with cool people, sing loudly in unison along with an EXTENSIVE jukebox, and perhaps play some table Galaga, then by all means, go here. With the LA club scene being the absolute MESS that it is, wouldn't you rather not stand in line just to enter the belly of the overrated? This place is a hidden oasis. It's just a bar.
They Overcharge -- Be Careful!!!.
Before tonight, I'd rate this place about a five -- now, I really wish I could go lower than ZERO. The bill for a modest night of debauchery seemed high, but the bartender (who looks like Rosy O'Donnell's tag-team partner) snatched the bill out of my buddy's hand before we could get our bearings. He paid it, even leaving a good tip -- then, before we left, we started thinking about what the bill SHOULD HAVE BEEN. They overcharged the bill by at least twenty dollars, but we figured we just paid a "LET'S CROSS THIS BAR OFF THE LIST"-fee. The bartender noticed us looking at the food list on the board, totaling everything up -- she had that, "OOPS, I'M BUSTED"-look on her face.
DON'T EVER GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE CHEATED.
There's nothing fancy about this simple bar situated on trendy Melrose--and that's the point..
In Short
The Snakepit sports a way-lower-than-chic but way-higher-than-dive atmosphere and crowd. Patrons can choose from the full bar and the impressive selection of beer, including a large number of imported brews on tap. Those looking for good a bite won't be disappointed by the spicy buffalo wings or other bar-food favorites.
Worst bar everrrrrr. The Snake Pit is an absolutely horrible place. I absolutely love dive bars and thought this would be my little gem near WeHo. Oh, so wrong...SO wrong! The crowd was sparse at 11pm on a Saturday night. Despite of this, it took the bartender seriously 10 minutes to bring us limes and salt for our tequilla shots. And on top of that, one of the waitresses caught a huge attitude with me for invading her space even after I apologized politely. This crazy waitress continued to stay on my back while we rushed to finish our beers and get out of there. I'd rather stew in a snake pit with no clothes on than go back there...horrible service, lame ambiance, and the rudest waitstaff I have ever encountered.
