In Short – The Snakepit sports a way-lower-than-chic but way-higher-than-dive atmosphere and crowd. Patrons can choose from the full bar and the impressive selection of beer, including a large number of imported brews on tap. Those looking for good a bite won't be disappointed by the spicy buffalo wings or other bar-food favorites. – –

ambiance

  1. Great location for a bar like this - horribly poor and substandard service.
  2. horrible service, lame ambiance, and the rudest waitstaff I have ever encountered.

  1. Feels like the bar in your home town where the bartender knows your name and what ya drink.
  2. unassuming, good tunes on the jukebox, good hook ups on the drinks for not a lot of money, and no pretentious people.
  3. The bar staff rarely serves you in a timely manner, and generally the bar and wait staff is not friendly and inattentive.
  4. If you put in the time you can find yourself welcomed into a wonderfully eclectic group of interesting people and for me that is what this bar is about.
  5. The only reason why I keep from recommending this place is to avoid what happens to most good places in LA -- they go from a place where friends can meet, have a reasonably priced drink, listen to some great tunes, get carded by a guy on a stool who alway
  6. Service is great but you will have get you ass off the couch and order at the bar its not TGI Fridays.
  7. The bar staff have all been there for ever and sure, if (particularly) T or Marina are having a bad day you may know about it, but for me that just makes it all the more real, no pretensions or false niceness and amongst all that is fake close by, I love
  8. the snakepit's that rare gem in l.a.--a down-to-earth bar where the bartender and the bouncer and the waitress remember you.
  9. The food and drinks were excellent, although by no means a value, but the service was deplorable.
  10. On top of that, add some great bar food, a great jukebox, and friendly clientelle.
  11. Great place to grab an ice cold beer during a lazy Saturday
  12. Great location for a bar like this - horribly poor and substandard service.
  13. For me the best bar of it's type in the local - and I tried a good few.
  14. great local bar
  15. Love this place, generous with the drinks and food.

  6. They boast a fairly large menu for a small kitchen and having only had the disappointing veggie tacos once, I can't really vouch for the food.

  6. If you want to roll into a place where you can get served, hang with cool people, sing loudly in unison along with an EXTENSIVE jukebox, and perhaps play some table Galaga, then by all means, go here.

Great place to grab an ice cold beer during a lazy Saturday

by BlueOnBlast , Citysearch Contributor at Citysearch

Funny I almost did not find this place on City Search having only known it as The Snake Pit. This is a great neighborhood bar to grab a quick Happy Hour or a an ice cold beer during a lazy Saturday. The place is small but the staff is all around pretty nice. They boast a fairly large menu for a small kitchen and having only had the disappointing veggie tacos once, I can't really vouch for the food. So stick to a drink and grab a seat in the window to watch the Melrose parade go by!

  • Pros: Full bar, large beer menu, located central on Melrose
  • Cons: Street parking only

Twenty beers on tap Great Pizza and Burgers!

by travilinshow007 at Citysearch

When we walked in they have this projector screen TV thats in your face to watch games!!

We were were in bar heaven!! The bar display went way up to the ceiling, the drinks are reasonably priced and so is the food, my date had the burger which she loved and I had the pizza which put me in shock cause it was HUGE. I had to take some home cause it could feed three people @ six something a pop .

They have this makeout couch where we ended up!!!!!!!!!!!!

We drove by it twice cause its low key with a neighborhood bar vibe

For me the best bar of it's type in the local - and I tried a good few.

by twotrips at Citysearch

1st post - just had to come to the defence of The Pit. When I moved to Melrose from the UK a few years back I was desperate to find a local unpretentious bar I could feel at home in. The day I walked into the pit I knew I had found it. It is a without question a regulars bar and it may be fair to say they don?t put out the bunting for strangers but there is a method to the madness. If you put in the time you can find yourself welcomed into a wonderfully eclectic group of interesting people and for me that is what this bar is about. That and a great selection of beers, an internet linked jukebox and the finest Buffalo wings I tasted in 2 years in LA. The bar staff have all been there for ever and sure, if (particularly) T or Marina are having a bad day you may know about it, but for me that just makes it all the more real, no pretensions or false niceness and amongst all that is fake close by, I love the place for that. If you are the type to think it is acceptable to talk on your cell whilst trying to get served though, you could be waiting a long time.
