Editorial Review for Katherine Abbey Hanna Park – by Amy Roundtree
The Experience
There's plenty of space to spread out at this beautiful park located in the beach community of Mayport. With 1.5 miles of clean beaches, 65 acres of freshwater lakes and nearly 300 campsites (complete with full hook-ups), it's no wonder why this is Jacksonville's most popular park.
The Best
Hanna Park is popular for family get-togethers and company cookouts. The lake is perfect for fishing, skiing, kayaking, paddle boating and canoeing. The lake's adjoining playground has fountains in which guests can splash and frolic. Hikers, bikers and runners can all enjoy the trails that meander through the park.
The Rest
The park has lifeguards, concession stands and 24-hour security. Picnic facilities are available for rental, as are tents. Additional fees are charged for RVs.

Reservations took 2 days to get through-constant busy signal. The day we were coming called about 100 times-BUSY SIGNAL entire time. Entrance has "gentleman's club" showing a limited dressed female cartoon on their sign-this is at the entrance to the park-so much for "family values" in Jax. Checked in at 7 Thurs-at 7:26 I called office to inform them that our site was too small for our camper-wow an answered call-she responded rudely "nothing I can do you'll have to call in the morning"-click. Reserved site for 30 foot travel trailer-site we got had sewer hook in the middle of the site, too narrow no awning-no room to open door. Gate codes at entry didn't work for 2 nights. Spent hour waiting-husband looked into office and called numbers and "park manager" or "hosts" who answered were rude and were more concerned with "how did you get this number?" When security guard did arrive-he responded with "all ya gotta do is put in the code for christ's sake"-20 people in line that tried all got the same-no gate opened. Boys are age 9 and 11-booked for the beach and "water park" -boys were too tall for water park-limited to 54 inches-but it doesn't mention ANYWHERE in literature or limited info on their awful web site. A day care group was there and 2 of their kids were above the height requirement-My sister came in the day after us-she had a newborn and 2 year old with her-at the gate they told her she had to park and come in to get her "parking pass"-it seems that one person working 5 feet away from another person at the gate can't give out the "pass"-you know how hard it is to unload 2 small children? They gave her big time attitude! Went to camp store to rent bikes-guy was on personal call and after five minutes we left. These employees are some of the WORST I ever come into contact with. We will NEVER come back or recommend. Garbage everywhere, bathhouses disgusting, saw numerous people openly drinking bottled beer at campsites/pavillions. Jax should be ashamed!
Pros: Beach
Cons: Non existent or RUDE Employees
