What People Are Saying About Griffith Park

In Short – Ride off into the sunset for margaritas and romance, or delight the kiddies with a pony ride. Have a picnic or barbecue amid oak trees and dancing shadows in Ferndell Canyon or pick up a few extra strokes on either of the two golf courses. Explore the Bronson Caves or take a leisurely ride on the merry-go-round. Coo at baby animals at the zoo or stroll through the aviary that sports as much shade as sparrows. Take time to explore these beautiful settings too often overlooked by locals. Who knew L.A. could be so natural?
Editor's Tips
- Know Before You Go:
- Favorite routes for jogging are Griffith Park Drive from the Los Feliz Boulevard/Riverside Drive entrance, Crystal Springs Drive in Park Center to Los Angeles Zoo, and Zoo Drive to Travel Town Museum.
- The Extras:
- Open fires are prohibited but barbecue pits are provided free of charge at picnic areas. There is also a sprawling playground known as "Shane's Inspiration" where children can ride bikes and scooters, climb and slide down the jungle gym and frolic on the swings.

Racial Profiling
by Rookie
as a young kid I used to love coming out to the Observatory and the Griffith Park with family and friends as a parent, lately the park rangers have harassed and complicated things at the park with their racial profiling. Hispanics can't even spend a good time with families without a park ranger questioning them and straight out asking them to leave the park. I will never return to this place because of the racial profiling that goes on there with the park rangers.
- Pros: Great place for the American Family
- Cons: Bad place for Hispanic Community

The Sierra Club meets here every Tuesday and Thursday for Night Hikes. I can't recommend this enough. Since moving to the area, I've been coming here almost every week and love it! Summer's obviously better as it's lighter later at night, but there are five (rarely six) levels of hiking. It's very beautiful here and I've hiked all over the park, walked through it, picnicked, and even ridden horses through it. It's awesome.

I love Griffith - it was the first place that allowed me to connect with LA - the view from the museum is amazing, and worth driving to. It's never truly crowded, and you can go up and read a book on the lawn if you want to.
- Pros: Free, Beautiful
- Cons: Windy, Closes early
