mediocre bad food, great tropical drinks, great place, warm dinner rolls, love service, unique ambience, above average
Wonderfully random Polynesian-kitsch oasis in Rosemead. Umbrella-laden drinks and wild decor make up for average food.

Kitschy and a little grimy, this ancient Tiki bar is a must-see. Fish in aquariums have been floating through life longer than the patrons.

Best tiki bar in L.A., no competition! Packed with hundreds of aquariums and serving the tastiest tropical drinks in a flaming bowl, this spot never disappoints.

COOL AMTMOSPHERE & RUFUS THE FISH!.
IT HAS AN AWSOME ISLAND VIBE. DARK INSIDE WITH HUNDEDS OF FISH TANKS TO LIGHT YOUR WAY. I SAW DAVID HASSLEHOF (spelling?) THERE. MANY MOVIES AND TV SHOWS HAVE BEEN FILMED THERE. IF YOU ARE MISSING THE ISLANDS, DEFINiTLY GO HERE. GOOD DRINKS, GOOD PRICES.
***YOU HAVE TO SEE THE FAMOUS RUFUS THE FISH WHEN YOU WALK IN. HE IS ALL OVER YOTUBE***
NOT SO MUCH!!!.
I'VE BEEN TO BAHOOKA'S 2x - 2x too many!!!
THE PLACE IS SO DARK INSIDE YOU CAN'T EVEN TELL WHAT YOU'RE EATING WHICH IS SCARY ENOUGH FOR ME.
AMBIANCE IS 1 THING BUT DARKNESS, HELLO!!!!!
NEVER IS TOO SOON FOR THIS GIRL
INEDIBLE BAD FOOD POORLY SERVED. WOW,,,, DROVE 40 MILES BASED ON ON-LINE REVIEWS ONLY TO BE MET BY A RESTAURANT THAT SHOULD BE OUT OF BUSINESS. THE FOOD WAS TASTELESS AND INEDIBLE. THE GOOD REVIEWS MUST HAVE BEEN WRITTEN BY BAHOOKA FAMILY MEMBERS... CAUTION.
Great place to get a drink, date and appetizers. Drinks were great, exotic and the place was atmospheric. Good place to take a date or just hang out with some friends. A good amount of people, but not crowded and enough background "talk" from other people, but not enough to interfere with your conversation.
Great Drinks and Atmosphere. Went here for the first time on a first date. The atmosphere is so charming, quiet, and dark! Perfect for a first date. We shared a bowl for 2, called the Firefly. It was yummy and had us a little tipsy afterwards! The food is nothing to write home about , but my stuffed shrimp were yummy. I'd say stick to appetizers like shrimp and finger foods and you wont go wrong. I would love to come back to grab a drink with friends and enjoy the surroundings, the place has fish everywhere you look. Service was good and it was a great place to chat and chill. It is worth the drive for the experience alone. I say its a must do at least once in your life!
Bahooka- an establishment as unique as its name..
I have been patronizing this establishment since I was too young to drink up until now when I'm too old to drink. That covers about 35 yrs or so and I still get the feeling of being somewhere cool and very far away evertime I go there.
In a world where all the restaurants seem the same whether you're in Fresno or Newport Beach ,this place is a very unique paradise.
You experience the Bahooka, you don't just go there to eat. You are greeted by warm, friendly people who guide you to your booth (pay attention how you got there or you may never find your way out (which isn't necessarily a bad thing) where it's cool and secluded where you can get any umbrella drink ever invented (and a few that haven't).
The food, overall, I would rate as "good". There are, however, several items on the menu that are absolutely OUTSTANDING. Ask your server- they know which ones they are. Those folks who describe the food as Blah didn't. After dinner- don't leave- get an after dinner drink and do some smooth talkin' to your honey , or just order some ice cream and make faces with the kids at the many species of fish surrounding your table. Get a T-shirt on the way out to further amaze and impress your family and friends.
I have also used their banquet services (there's a huge room towards the back of the rerstaurant -which I still think they should convert into a club/bar) on four or five occasions and have been very pleased with the food, service, and prices. Years after people still comment on how interesting the restaurant was and the good time they had there.
The fact that you knew where this great place was, and the fact that whoever was with you never even heard of it before, will automatically elevate their opinion of you and your decision making abilities. Who knows where that may take you....
BEST TROPICAL MIXED DRINKS OUTSIDE OF HAWAII. Open since 1967, the Bahooka Ribs & Grog is known as the ?working man?s Trader Vic?s restaurant? offering seafood, steaks, ribs, and the BEST reasonably-priced, most prolific menu of TROPICAL mixed drinks found outside the state of Hawaii: the Blue Hawaii, the Pina Colada, the Hurricane, the Zombie, and many others are all here. Some of them are flaming drinks and some arrive with the traditional paper umbrellas, fresh pineapple spear, and maraschino cherries. But be forewarned: Their alcoholic drinks are STRONG. The restaurant?s ambience has a dark, ?Gilligan?s Island,? shipwreck-decor. You may need to bring a discreet mini-flashlight to read the menu. There are 105 illuminated aquariums filled with fish?as pets?to admire and occasionally, you can hear The Beach Boys? music in the background. Some reviewers have criticized the food. Compared to fine steak and seafood restaurants, they're right. However, the food at the Bahooka IS generally good and above average, with some entrees made better than others. Highly recommended are their Dinner Menu entrees such as the Ham Steak with Pineapple Ring; the New York Steak Dinner; and the ?Exotic Ribs? Dinner (pork spareribs). The ham is thick and juicy, the NY steak is lean and flavorful, and the spareribs are lean, very meaty, and basted with a tasty BBQ sauce. Seafood selections here are limited, but the ?Catch of the Day? fish specials are seldom a disappointment. Their ?House Salad? is served ice cold with a tasty Thousand Islands salad dressing. Dinner rolls are warm, soft and flavorful. And their side dish of ?Steak Fries? is some of the best I?ve ever tasted?fresh, hot, crispy, and not overdone. VERY generous food portions, too. I love this place for its unique ambience, good food, great tropical drinks, and the friendly service. Unfortunately for me, this is the LAST Bahooka Ribs & Grog location?there used to be more of them scattered throughout the San Gabriel Valley during the 1970s.
Great Food, Great Drinks, Great Atmosphere, Great Place!. It's quiet, peaceful, relaxing, and even romantic. I have taken my share of dates there. I don't live in the neighborhood anymore, but I still stop by when I can. They are well known for their ribs and I'm never disappointed by them. The tropical drinks are great and usually on fire. Kids like that and they like to watch the fish too. Each booth has it's very own fish tank! So many reasons to come here besides the food.
The maze.
I have lived by this "restaurant" my whole life and i barely ventured into it about a year ago. All I have to say is-Dont get drunk in there because you wont be able to find your way out! haha
Its a really interesting restaurant or bar or whatever it is because of everythign there is too look at.
As for the food, dont go there for it. Personally, I think its overpriced and not that great.
If your going to come here, its for the atmosphere and the bowl drink!
