Editorial Review for Father's Office – by Mar Yvette

In Short
First things first. This isn't the kind of bar where you can just waltz in at any hour of the night and expect fast service and no crowd. No, this is L.A. County's landmark gastropub (tiny as it is) where foodies, beer connoisseurs (and sometimes smug scenesters) from near and far wait in ridiculously long lines in hopes of getting a spot at one of the tables crammed inside. The plain hardwood walls and tile floors make the place as loud as a high school cafeteria, even on the rare occasion when there aren't many people around. The house offers a seasonally rotating selection of 36 "craft" beers on tap. But if wine is more your thing, not to worry--there are a few bottles of small-producer wines and micro-distilled spirits. For food, everyone swears by the blue cheese "Office" burgers and small plates like anchovies, charcuterie and yam fries (just don't ask for ketchup unless you enjoy rude stares from staff). In between brews and vittles, make friends with your very close neighbors by reading questions from the dozens of Trivial Pursuit games floating around.

There are no substitutions on menu items, absolutely no ketchup provided for fries and no table service--order at the bar.

The Extras

Don't hesitate to ask for help in choosing a beer from their vast (and somewhat intimidating) selection. They'll find a beer to suit your taste and will even give you a sample to help you decide.

Let's get one thing straight about Father's Office: IT"S A BAR!!!!!!!!!! Have you been to a bar, complainers? BAR'S DON'T SIT PEOPLE OR TAKE RESERVATIONS. To be more clear: I'm sure most of you have waited in a line to get into a bar, then waited when you're inside said bar to order something, waited for a place to sit if the bar is crowded, then waited for your order to arrive. This is the same at Father's Office. Yes, it happens to serve a burger and other food items that are pretty incredible, but in the end it's not claiming to be a restaurant, so don't come on this site and treat it like one. If you don't like the wait, then don't go. That people complain and moan on and on in the negative reviews about FO is ridiculous. Get your expectations in line and do a little research before going to get a bite to eat and a good beer. Similarly, for all the first-timers who come up to the door, look at the people waiting patiently in line long and hard, and then proceed to walk right into the bar: please walk to the end of the line calmly and don't give the bartender a hard time about sending you back outside. Americans can be so unbelievably impatient. Usually 3-4 groups of people come up and do this every ten minutes and it's pretty obnoxious. That being said, sometimes they rush the burgers and don't apply all the ingredients with equal consistency throughout the bun. And I get my burger cooked the way I want it cooked about half the time. But I don't care because it still is better than burger in this town save drunk in n out.

Pros: Burger, Fries, Beers

Cons: Novice patrons

I do not recommend this place. I went there last night with my boyfriend to get a burger. The place is really small and too crowded. We got there at 7:30p and had to wait outside in line for someone to leave before we could go in. Then we had to stand around at a crowded bar waiting for a table. People were hovering everywhere waiting for someone to leave in order ot get a seat. We got lucky and got a seat at the bar. Then we waited another hour for $12 burgers, which weren't very good. They were fine, nothing I would wait an hour for. Then to top off the evening both my boyfriend and I got sick from the food. I will never go back to this place. We should have just gone to In and Out.

Pros: You get a big basket of fries

Cons: Too crowded and nowhere to sit and eat. The waitstaff and bartenders are not nice.
