Editorial Review for Lucky Baldwin's Pub – by Stephanie L. Smith
The Scene
"Think globally, drink locally" is the motto of this affable Pasadena pub named after E.J. "Lucky" Baldwin, the founder of the Santa Anita racetrack. In this case, "globally" means the U.K., so expect exposed brick, "Lovely day for a Guinness" posters and soccer hooligans on the telly. Enjoy a game of darts in the upstairs loft, tuck into crispy fish and chips or have a smoke on the patio permanently strewn with Christmas lights. Special events run the gamut from Sunday keg parties to the occasional live band.
The Draw
A mild-mannered mix of students, yuppies, retirees and everyone else who delights in hoisting a pint. Draught beers are the usual suspects, with one local exception: Pasadena's own Craftsman Ale. Those with more eclectic tastes can choose from the vast array of Belgian ales and fruit lambics.

my boyfriend actually recommended this place our on way back home from a trip. He's been going for years. We went in on a sunday afternoon and it was the best vibe. the game was on, there was a mix of twentysomethings, frou frou people, locals. Pretty relaxing. The service took little while at first but the servers know there stuff when it comes to drink recommendations and good conversation. I wouldnt strongly recommend the chicken pie (good but a bit too salty) but the fish and chips was tasty. Definintely try the Pig in a Blanket!! Beer recommendations would be the Craftsman Ale, Reinaert Flemish Amber Ale, Youngs Double Chocalate Stout. Not recommended: Lindeman Framboise (taste diety) . Overall - will definitely go again

When my friends and I went here after work once, we got seats right at the bar. We were here to drink, so we assumed sitting at the bar would ensure our glasses were never empty. We soon learned that there is no way to get a beer quickly here. While the beer selection is great, we didn't try as many as we would have liked just because it was such a hassle to get the bartender's attention! And this wasn't a busy Saturday night: it was an average happy hour at a dive bar. An empty glass got no service, waving and saying "excuse me" received no response, it wasn't until we overheard the bartender's name and started calling that out that he would actually serve us. We were women who were being good patrons. There was no reason for the bartender to ignore us like he did. While I do love belgian beers and they have a large selection here, it is not enough to make me go back.
Pros: beer selection
Cons: awful service, kinda smells, poor food selection
