Editorial Review for Blue Bayou – by Katherine Turman

The Scene
It's always a starry night inside this elegant eatery that overlooks the tree-shrouded entrance of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Strings of Japanese lanterns and candles set a dramatic backdrop, with faux frogs and critter noises completing the swampy effect. Fireflies flicker in the distance, creating a romantic vibe, while attentive service provides a welcome respite from the madding Disneyland crowds outside.

The Food
The menu features Southern-themed dishes served with a California accent. For starters, the clam chowder is filling, if somewhat gluey. The tender andouille sausage stuffed with fresh mushrooms is a better choice. Main courses are geared to carnivores, but vegetarians can indulge in a tasty, meat-free Creole gumbo poured over rice and paired with tender okra and celery. Salmon in a sweet and spicy plum sauce is served well-done, and three crab cakes are sided by a creamy, smoky remoulade and perfectly al dente julienned veggies.

Imagine dining at a restaurant where it is night all day long. You can here crickets and a banjo playing in the distance. You can see boats sailing past you. This is all possible at the Blue Bayou. The blue bayou restaurant is located in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland. This means you can see boats sail past the restaurant. No other place can beat the atmosphere. As for the food it is great! It is cajun style and has a good amount of variety. The Monte Cristo is a great sandwich served for lunch. The food at the blue bayou will fill you up. The wedge salad and poatoes were great! Service was also great. The waiter refilled our drinks with out asking. We were served tons of bread. The waiter checked up on us numerous times making sure our meal was perfect. The blue bayou REQUIRES reservations. So make sure you do have reservations at least 1 week before. Also when checking into the restaurant request Water-side seating for the best experience. Our bill totatled up to $100 for a party of four. However it was well worth it with the atmosphere and the good food!

Pros: Food, service, and Amibence were great.

Cons: Reservations are required.

My family has been going to the Blue Bayou for years now. And yes, it is on the upper end of the price scale but it is soooo worth it. And we have been able to have a party of 8 there. A lot of the food can be shared but they do charge a split plate charge. But you also get the wonderful atmosphere and excellent service. But from experience be sure and get the priority seating before you arrive for the park from your home. This way you are guaranteed the time and kind of table that you wish. And if you want to sit by the water be sure and request this also. And try to show up at least 15 minutes before your reservation time. With these little tricks we have made our eating experience here that much more wonderful, as our wait time etc. is cut way down. Again, we just love the food. If you have children with you the amount of food from the childrens menu is very large.

Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere

Cons: Split plate charge

Balmy bayou dining, moonlit even on the sunniest days, complements a grown-up Creole menu.  See the full editorial review.
