good better food, good service, varied app menu, comfortable restaurant, impressive wine, loved dessert, really great refined meal
Watermelon margarita. The most refreshing drink you can have ever. I love brunch here on the weekends and I love that they have bottomless mimosas.
Great happy hour from 4-7 pm Mondays through Saturdays. The bourbon-based Napa mule is a personal favorite.
Great cocktails (clementini) and a fresh approach to seasonal sourcing. Chef Taylor's signature crab cake is a must and don't leave without the tiramisu. They make their own lady fingers.
Really great place.
Pretty awesome food though I wouldn't get the red pepper soup. The turkey bolognese was to die for! It reminded me of Ali grea in malibu! My waiter was great, he remembered everything and was really nice and explanatory. I would definitely go there again.
Pros: Great atmosphere, nice waiters, clean, great bolognese and lovely tea.
Chic trendy late night happy hour spot.
I went to Napa Valley Grille on a Fri night with 2 friends and was surprised to find out they had a happy hour going on. Their happy hour times can be found on their website.
We sat in the back patio on couches and lounge chairs which was a really nice atmosphere. I had their orchard apple sangria I believe, and we ordered a pitcher which was only $12 and definitely worth it. The mac and cheese off the happy hour menu was extremely delicious, the fish taco was very tasty but small (they only give you 1) and their slider was also pretty small but not bad. I loved the chic atmosphere, lounging on the outside patio in nice weather. They had a great selection of drinks and small bites to eat for their happy hour and I will definitely come back again. The prices were very appealing as well. The service was good, with the waiter checking up on us every once in a while to see if we needed anything. Next time, I will definitely order a serving of the mac n cheese plate for myself! =)
Very Impressive !.
Love this place more and more over the last year or two. I don't cook so I eat out for almost all meals and since I live in Beverly Hills, I frequent the Bev Hills/Westwood areas.
This place dropped off my radar years back because the food seemed mundane and the place lacked luster. Not true anymore !
I LOVE this place. Great place not only to take a significant "other" to, but I also go alone or with freinds for cocktails...they even get a great bar crowd for sports events (Go Lakers).
The restaurant is comfortable and I love the different elevations and viiews for people watching. Even though the bar needs an overhaul of hardware, it's the most fun place to hang out in the place... TV's... cocktails and they'll serve happy hour food (great app menu.. creative and inexpensive) or full dinner...
That being said, check out the back patio on a nice night or Sunday brunch. Smart move adding couches and heaters out there. The brunch is worth a trip alone... it's tapas style so basically you create your own meal from a great variety of breakfast foods...crab eggs bene... lemon curd french toast... Really good value but even better, you get to eat what you want... almost like your personalized sampler platter ... Well worth going..
I thought I'd miss the (Hamlet) Gardens when it closed (across the street), but I don't. Napa keeps stepping up it's game to dwarf the competition... and don't even think about eating at Palomino .. a drink Maybe but the food isn't in the same league.
If in the Westwood area, Napa is a Must. If not in the area, still worth the trip.
Find Them on Twitter!. Whether it's a free sangria on Tax Day, or 20% off a 5 course meal, Napa Valley Grille is not shy about dealing out the freebies and discounts on Twitter. And with Hollywood A-listers frequently visiting the restaurant, you might even get a free show out of the meal, too. [Twitter Handle: @nvgwestwood]
Citysearch Editorial Review. Who says you can only get a taste of Wine Country up north? Long considered a neighborhood gem (the restaurant celebrated its ten-year anniversary in 2010), Napa Valley Grille is where everyone from nearby UCLA faculty to celebrating families and romantic couples head for rustic, Wine Country-inspired cuisine. Although the space is enormous--an exhibition kitchen and "wine tasting table" lead the way to the main dining room anchored by a roaring fireplace, two spacious private rooms, a full bar area and roomy outdoor lounge replete with heat lamps and large flatscreen--it somehow feels cozy and welcoming. Led by executive chef Joseph Gillard, the kitchen aims to provide guests with a fine dining experience that's approachable, value-oriented and built around eco-friendly practices. Based on what's in season, the menu might feature an organic heirloom tomato salad one month and wild Catalina swordfish another. Tasting menus are also an option and the kitchen is always willing to cater to dietary restrictions. One regular dish on the menu is Chef Gillard's turkey bolognese, a deliciously spicy creation of housemade pappardelle, Shelton Farms turkey and parmesan. Of course, enjoying a glass (or flight) of wine is almost compulsory here and the list of California labels is duly impressive.
WOW - what a great night.... Location is great - near UCLA and lots of foot traffic and shops. Food was top notch - the kitchen is playing for keeps - big & varied menu, tons of wine, huge space, casual yet upscale - how could this be our first time? We will be back for certain - and did I mention all the wine... BOOM!
a wonderful surprise.
Think classy but inviting winery/vineyard
I've been in the restaurant bizz for 12 yrs (fine dining food server/bartender)..so when I tell you that the service was amazing, it really was "AMAZING".
Unique and comforting flavors everywhere!
I ordered the diver scallops w/ sweet corn puree and a mushroom salad (not a salad, but more like marinated mushroom, celery leafs, herbs). The scallops were pan seared to perrrrrfection, the balance of the dish was executed beautifully. My friend had the (even better than moms!) Meatloaf w/ mashed pots and this lovely corn and lima bean concoction in olive oil. Their Napa chardonnay was impressive. (better than Stags Leap), and then their were the lattes...they made Starbucks taste like mud.
As we were seated, the hostess pointed out the complimentary gourmet cheese cart, fully loaded. AND there was a 'cheese chef' to serve/educate you on the items. From fresh honeycomb to pair w/ the Humbolt Fog, to a soft chorizo like sausage for your Brie on crostinis. At the end of our experience, the server came out, not w/ mints or orange slices, but rather chocolate scones w/ lemon icing already packaged for us to enjoy w/ our morning coffee. so generous and thoughtful!!
Did not match the entrees in quality of flavor/texture. Bread Pudding and Chocolate "Molten" Cake: typical and boring.
*Definitely check it out if you have an appreciation for good eats, ambiance, and service ;)
Extremely disappointing!. Theres nothing worse than bad attitude to ruin a meal.My Husband, toddler and l are currently in LA on Vacation and we are staying at the W hotel in the Westwood area of the City.We were recommended by the concierge to dine at Napa Grille because they are known for their fresh food. as well as its proximity to the hotel. The two Ladies at the front house had the weirdest vibe, l am not sure if they had never seen or met a mixed race couple before but l got the impression they had been forced to be there without proper training. They never made eye contact, never smiled. One of them just indicated we should take any of the tables, nobody walked us to the table or formally welcomed us in, unlike other guests who i saw were been walked to their tables.l caught one of them staring at me in the oddest way a few times. Its the strangest thing where you have a country whose President is obviously from a mixed heritage and where there are so many different races and interracial couples, you still find some of the oddest individuals who give you the most ignorant looks like they have never been outside of their four block radius. The waiter who served us was cordial and good, and the food was okay, however my bad experience continued when we finished dinner and the Lady again at the front house did not even raise her head to say anything, no goodbye, thank you, come again, nothing! Overall, a total waste of my precious afternoon. And so, l would say, if you are a specific race, you would most probably be welcome here, atleast until they replace the women at the front house or give them proper etiquette lessons on how to be professional to everyone without exception.
Napa Valley. I had a baby shower held here and we had problems. First the menu was not set right and for the price (which was way too over priced), the food was not great. You're definitely paying for the atmosphere.
WINNER... most improved restaurant on the Westside... by Far.
WOW... what a resurgence this place has made. My office has been a block away since NVG opened and it's better now than ever. New management (summer '08) is much more friendly and professional and the chef really "gets it." The 40 minute guaranteed Business Lunch is a great idea and great execution and the dishes are as light and heathy or as plentiful as you like.... all with being created from some of the freshest ingredients i've had.
Happy hour has been reborn with great deals on food you actually Want and the wines by the glass are impressive. And best of all, they do happy hour 3-7 And 9-12.... perfect for pre or post movie or Theater.
I've been in LA all my life so you get immune to the touristy celeb sightings but the recognizable peeps that frequent NVG usually seem relaxed, unassuming and approachable... alot like the place itself and the menu. I went from visiting NVG 1-2 times a year to now having food and/or cocktails 1-2 times a week. Try the outdoor patio on a nice day or night
