Editorial Review for Maison 140 Beverly Hills – by Citysearch Editors
The Scene
Formerly a quiet B&B known as the Beverly House Hotel, the vibe is dark, in a cool, dramatic, Parisian way. Design maven Kelly Wearstler fused European chic with Asian flair for a uniquely inspiring look--lavish, almost campy, but distinctively stylish. The lobby lounge area mixes large, black Baroque furnishings with Oriental-esque red carpeting and sheer paneling.
The Details
None of the rooms are exactly alike--each has one-of-a-kind antiques and custom-designed furniture. One room is plastered from floor to ceiling in a pagoda-print wallpaper; another features a red velvet-tufted headboard. Expect custom-crafted mattresses and Egyptian cotton Frette bed linens, Philosophy toiletries, and dual-line phones. Use of the Avalon Hotel pool is included.

I stayed there one night and had an event there. The employees were extremely helpful and accommodating. The appetizers and service was amazing. The hotel is obviously old and small but has its inherent charm and good for small events. The room has Molten Brown shampoo!! (or hair wash as you Brits say) Parking is extremely convenient!
Pros: Great service, nice rooms, Molten Brown, Parking.
Cons: Not cheap (but what is in Beverly Hills?)....

This hotel is truly one of a kind. If you are looking for a big grand showy hotel, this place is not for you. The hotel focuses on the intimate and intricate. What I mean is the attention to detail you will find in such a historical and authentic property. As you will see, the authenticity is transpired to the staff that will attend to your every need in with the best of attitudes. I use to frequent other local hotels like the W Hotel in Westwood, which is a nice property, but is too loud and has way too pretentions of a crowd. Maison 140 is small, interesting, and seductive... the rooms couldnt have more charm and the clientele reflect flair of the hotel. Everyone I have met there is refined, intelligent, and appreciates good things in small packages (you should call and ask about their monthly wine tasting, probably the best deal in L.A) I think this is one of the only treasures left in Los Angeles as we see an over saturated market of "Cheap-Chic" hotels that feel more like night clubs and truly disintergrate the hotel experience. I wish you all well in your travels and hope that you get to experience Maison 140 of Beverly Hills at one point or another.
Pros: Small, non-pretentious crowd, unique and truly boasts the authentic flare that many hotels are missing.
Cons: rooms can be a little smaller than expected, but are still well worth it.
