Editorial Review for Avalon Hotel Beverly Hills – by Ginny Chien
In Short
Mid-century retro in an informal, homey setting is the prevailing theme, but Asian accents (such as decorative bamboo stalks) and sleek seating keep the place modern. Airy pastels, especially sage and sky-blue, dominate the color scheme. Fans of classic modernism will appreciate the whimsy of George Nelson bubble lamps and the clean lines of Noguchi glass-topped tables. The Avalon's most stunning features are its architectural elements: a teal-and-light-purple basket weave facade, a towering copper-encased elevator and a figure eight-shaped pool.

Fun FactMarilyn Monroe and Mae West lived here in the '50s when it was the Beverly Carlton. The glamour parade subsequently slowed, but it started up again in the late '90s when interior design "it girl" Kelly Wearstler transformed the space into the sublime Avalon Hotel. Designer Randolph Duke has stayed during Oscar season, as have Rupert Everett and model Shalom Harlow.

We had the best time at this hotel! The staff treated us like queens. Marie and Jenny made recommedations and reservations for us, gave us directions to and from restaurants and told us where we should go to find celebs! Jason, a server at the restaurant/pool, was so sweet and catering to us. I think these people actually like their jobs because they want to take care of you. Stay at the Avalon if you want to have a great time in Beverly Hills.
Pros: Great rooms and wonderful staff
Cons: Mandatory valet parking but that's the only negative!

I flat out had a party in one of the rooms in there and they didn't care. We partied hard til 3am and no complaints. The rooms are big...have high end stereos, plasma tv!! What else could you ask for? You can rent one of the cabanas... but that costs $$$.
Pros: Cool place to have a party...
Cons: Not cheap... but hey... you get what you pay for.
