What People Are Saying About Tama

In Short – After a fire destroyed his eponymous eatery in 2002, Katsu Michite opened this restaurant named after his wife. The decor is minimal, with white walls, glazed concrete floors and blond wood furniture. Three levels of omakase are available in addition to a la carte offerings, one with nigiri, another featuring sashimi, as well as the tasting menu, which highlights the day's freshest cuts and inspired cooked dishes. It can include kampachi, raw calmari or conch soup served in-shell.
fresh fish without the drama
by famousblueraincoat at Citysearch
if you like fresh fish, but don't need the drama of dining at the notorious place up the street, this is a good bet. i feel like prices are reasonable. there are diff levels of omakase. parking is easy. service is nice.
Can't understand all the five star reviews!
by tommeeboy at Citysearch
I chose Tama based on the 5 star reviews on citysearch. At first I was very pleased, they took my reservation over the phone and were extremely professional and courteous. When we arrived, we were immediately greeted and seated. Two gentlemen came over to our table to make sure we had our drink order in. So far so good.
But then came the wait for the food. Not sure if he spotted me watching others sit and start eating or he was simply embarrassed, but our very kind waiter came over with an apology and a dish of edamame to keep our hunger at bay.
Then the wait continued. I watched as a table who came in after us, stood up and left. Once again, the waiter with another apology, something I didn't quite understand about the sushi chef mixing up orders. More people around us finished their meals.
Finally, the sushi arrived. The cuts were small and jagged. The fish was mediocre. It wasn't worth the wait & admittedly we might have been a little more critical as we waited for a while to get it, raising our expectations.
So overall, friendly and considerate staff. Too long of a wait for the meal (please see other reviews on this matter too) and small cuts of 'okay' fish. You will be better served by making a reservation down the street at Sushi Katsu-ya where I had eaten a few weeks earlier and was very pleased (except for the crowds there - but now I know why they are packed and Tama is never quite full.)
- Pros: Easy - albeit paid - parking, friendly and professional staff, nice environment inside
- Cons: Long, long wait for food, small cuts of fish, obviously distracted sushi chefs
AWESOME SUSHI, AWESOME PRICE
by hayato619 at Citysearch
I have the honor of always having TAKESHI serve me when I go here. It is my favorite place to eat sushi. They have impeccable service. Have memorized what drinks my gf and I order, and all of the sushi is top notch. If you have a problem selecting what you wanna eat, eat it all because its all good. I normally get omakase.... anyway, if you come here you will not be disappointed. I used to frequent Asanebo but ever since i went here, I have become a believer.
- Pros: Good Food, Great Service, Intimate and Cozy
- Cons: lack of street parking, Better Service at the bar
