Great Food!. I never had Ruby's Diner before until recently I went there with my family and had a great lunch. Loved the onion rings and shakes on top of that the atmosphere was cool. I'm pretty sure we will back soon.

The all-American coffee shop gets a healthy SoCal slant..
The Scene
Tidy and bright, this nostalgic 1950s throwback emphasizes good, clean fun and fast, friendly service. The red Naugahyde booths, gleaming white counters and vintage Coca-Cola ads are neat-o, but the overall setting is not nearly as detailed as rival retro franchise Johnny Rockets.
The Food
Calorie-laden Midwestern mainstays such as meatloaf and chicken-fried steak appear on the menu, but so do vegetarian dishes, fresh salads and "lite" fries for you healthy eaters. Burgers get a wholesome spin, with the option to replace beef with turkey or vegetarian patties, or grilled chicken breast. The turkey Reuben is a tasty stack of oven-roasted meat, cole slaw and tangy Thousand Island dressing on rye, glued together with melted Swiss cheese. If you must, proceed directly to dessert--the double hot fudge brownie or banana pecan sundae will leave even the most decadent dessert lover in hyperglycemic bliss.

In 1982, businessman Doug Cavanaugh opened the first Ruby's in Southern California's Newport Beach, naming it after his mother. Today, this nationwide chain--adorned with red vinyl booths, Formica tables, soda fountains and retro posters--features the same timeless food and hospitality that keep diners coming back. Favorites are the classic burgers topped with secret RubySauce, fries and sweet shakes. Other staples include pancakes, omelettes, sandwiches, chili, salads and a variety of fountain treats.
