What Our Expert Scouts Say

El Carmen

This neighborhood bar is still going strong. Their margaritas have gotten better and more creative. Fresh fruit, unusual flavors, it all works deliciously. Nachos are a great way to sober up.

Love their pineapple infused shots. Tacos and tamales are so good. The decor is also very fun.

A tequila bar with one of LA's best margaritas. Mexican wrestler decor makes the standard tacos and combo plates taste better.

ay, mama$ita!. you've heard it here - you can easily drink your way deep past your pockets at el carmen if you don't watch it. i'd almost say it's worth it though - kick-butt margaritas. tho i don't know much about tequila, there are plenty to make the connoisseur happy. love the mexican wrestling theme and the lighting (and the bathroom-tiled walls)! the tables are little uncomfy, but look to be the best option since the bar area is lacking. the potato and mushroom tacos, respectively, are quite delish, as are the black beans and rice (authentico!). head there on your payday or um... when you get fired. el carmen will you fix you up in either situation.

The best Margarita. This is where my and my girlfriends go for a real margarita. This place is also great for social interaction if you know what I mean.

speak loudly. i am yet to go there for the food, but the ambiance is wonderful. just what you'd want from a sit and gurgle. it's loud for the ears, for the eyes, and for the belly. the plethora of tequila is exciting, but for those who do not know where to start, it's hard to get the bartender to tend to you for too long, for they have their own long lines to run through. but i know now to go for the margaritas...mango, it sounds good...with some tacos. i'm hungry

Fun!. This place was cool. Didnt get to eat, just showed up for some cocktails...which were AWESOME. You have to try the Mango Margarita.

Cool crowd, fun atmosphere. Definately will go back.

potato tacos..YUM. Good vegetarian stuff..like..potato or portobello mushroom tacos..but I really go there for the wrestling Ed Pashke like decor and the Margaritas. the big jar of pickled eggs is a nice touch.

EXPENSIVE!!!!. My margarita was $14. That's all I've got to say. The place looks nice and my tacos was fantastic, but you can really run up a tab fast in this place. Good for special occassions or a drink after work but you don't want to be a regular here. They don't even have a happy hour. Darn westside bars!

Tequila!. Great place to hang out with a large group. Consider this your warning that the bill can go up pretty quickly and if you don't eat, be prepared to spend the night standing. They have many different types of tequilas and friendly service.

Gotta check this place out. This place serves up some good tequilas and margaritas. This place can get crowded (it's a small place), but at least the people here are good looking and without the attitude. The color, decor, and the atmosphere throws off a warm vibe...or maybe that warm vibe came from the tequila.

No sittin' less you're eatin'. Great atmosphere and a fine selection of tequilas (300 or so). Food is good and affordable and just a little attitude served on the side from the servers. The bartender is wonderfully surly and more than happy to make you a great margarita in a minute (or 10). Overall, cool place to hang early in the evening.

Get there early!. El Carmen is a great place to start an evening, presuming you get there early. The hotspot tends to fill up quickly and seating can easily bring about a mild case of claustrophobia. Be sure to order a margarita and I highly recommend that you try one of their veggie tacos. Hit up the jukebox as well. The Clash. Buena Vista. Al Green. The Beatles. It's all in there.
