In Short – In the shadow of the Director's Guild, this popular hole-in-the-wall is filled with hungry Hollywood types hoping to make the cut for the "next major blockbuster." The U-shaped bar is perfect for James Dean-type loners looking to get their big break. A mile-long menu describes American classics with kindergarten twists. Flapjacks dotted with rainbow sprinkles, larger-than-life French toast and the Griddlewich--a peanut butter, strawberry jam and chocolate-covered banana sandwich. Breakfast plays the leading role: Power up with the Caballero, a breakfast burrito with eggs,…

When to Go:
On Saturdays and Sundays, there's always a line by 10am. Shoot for 9am if you want to glide straight to a table.
Know Before You Go:
Servings are gargantuan. If you don't plan on accessorizing with white Styrofoam, then splitting with friends is wise.

Over-Rated

by nicolesacker

Waited 45 minutes to eat breakfast this morning there, only to be shoved like sardines into this dumpy, seedy, dive-bar-looking breakfast place. The coffee was so disgusting and that's my first criteria in making a good breakfast place. The food was very average. After breakfast, we stayed chatting in our booth (i figure we waited 45 minutes--we earned it!) and were asked to hurry it up since the line outside was at an hour and a half wait now. The food was pathetically average, and this place is all hype and no substance.

Mmmmmmm...Creme de la creme

by CSMobileUser2

I do these random food combination searches on the internet. One day I thought about cheesecake french toast. The first few poped up, and one is about cheesecake french toast. I was sorta stunned to see it. It was a dish at "Griddle Cafe" in west hollywood. I read online that this place is quite a wait, but I thought it was well worth it! I end up waiting fifteen minutes, 'cause it was only me. I order the "Creme de la creme" which read to me as the cheesecake french I read about. A few minutes later, I get this big plate of cream covered french toast, sprinkled with cinnamon. It wasn't what I expected, but it was delicious! Totally worth coming! The french toast was layered under a scrumptious topping of cheesecake cream (which was probably store bought cheesecake filing), then coated in graham cracker crumbs, and dusted with cinnamon on top. I really would love some right now. But this dish is very sugary. By the end I couldn't finish it. I felt like I was getting diabetes. But this was unique and the best french toast combination I've had in a long time so I needed to finish. All in all, I thought eating here was well worth it. The portion was great, the quality pretty good, and the service was good. I would definitely eat here in many days to come, had I lived in LA.
