  • Sunday champagne brunch
  • Rustic patio dining
  • Lunch available Wed-Sat

El Conquistador is a Mexican family restaurant located in the heart of the Silverlake community. Since 1973, it has been serving fine food and award-winning margaritas. Just minutes from Hollywood and LA's Civic Center, our festive atmosphere and fast, friendly service will make for a great dining experience that's sure to keep you coming back again and again.

There is something for every taste and fancy; enchiladas, tacos and burritos with specialty fajitas, steaks, fish and shrimp dishes. Our delicious homemade soups are made fresh daily. Be sure to ask your friendly waiter about our end-of-the-week dinner specials.

Editorial Review for El Conquistador – by Citysearch Editors

In Short
The decor of this popular Sunset Junction spot is festive--from the textured pink walls to the dining room packed with huge butterfly kites, folk art and stained glass. Two separate bars are frequently filled to capacity as drinkers complement their margaritas with the Botana combo; a mix of nachos, taquitos, quesadillas and house-made guacamole. Entree favorites include chiles rellenos, onion- and pepper-simmered sirloin and an earthy mole slathered over chicken breasts or enchiladas.

I love this restaurant -- the service is great and the food is very good. The margaritas are a little on the sweet side, but will knock you out. The decor is fanciful and fun and the crowd is a nice mix of gay and straight -- a nice slice of life in one of L.A.'s most progressive, unpretentious neighborhoods. However, lately, some local parents seem to have confused it with a McDonald's PlayPlace, dragging in their newborns and toddlers who inevitably squawl. I know Denny's, IHOP and all those other "family" restaurants aren't hip, but since when is a 100-proof Mexican restaurant with two bars an appropriate place for little kids and strollers? And why inconvenience and annoy all the other diners?

Pros: great personnel, delicious fare, powerful margaritas

Cons: din can be deafening, too many kiddies of late

I've been going to El Conquistador for ever! The atmosphere, food (especially the carne asada) as well as the service have always been excellent. My favorite are the BANANA margaritas....I highly recommend them :) they make me go BANANAS after a few!!!

Pros: NONE

Cons: BANANA MARGARITAS
