Editorial Review for Pig 'n Whistle – by Martha Burr
The Scene
Back in the 1920s, when movie palaces like the Egyptian reigned supreme, stars like Clara Bow and Fatty Arbuckle held court at the Pig 'n Whistle. After painstaking renovation and restoration, this gem has reopened, serving an eclectic, though no less ubiquitous Hollywood crowd. The front room is lively, with a hopping bar scene you can watch from comfy banquette seats along one wall. In the back room, tables hold larger parties, and several canopy beds offer that wacky new gimmick--dining in bed.
The Food
The menu is pricey but adequate; heirloom tomato salad, seared ahi crusted in pepper, tender osso bucco, and molten chocolate cake are some of the highlights. At $75 per person, the glorified bar food on the "bed menu" is anything but a bargain, and the smoked salmon, beef and chicken brochettes, bacon-wrapped shrimp, and overcooked lamb chops are mediocre at best.

After reading the previous reviews, I was hesitant to have our Valentine Dinner at the Pig N Whistle, even to the point that when we walking to the restaurant we almost chose the Italian Restaurant around the corner! I am very glad, however, that we stuck with our original choice. From the greeting at the door to the final taste of our delicious desert, it was first rate. The ambience of the restaurant is true old style Hollywood, the service was prompt and pleasant and the food was delicious. I am not one to usually take the time to write a review, but this was a very good restaurant and the reviews I had read did not seem to do it justice. I appaud this restaurant, would highly recommend it and will definately revisit it in the future.
Pros: Decor, Service, Food

I was in town on business, and my associates and I went to the pig n whistle for dinner. We were a large group without a reservation, but the hostess was very accomodating and arranged a table for us. The food was absolutely divine-- I recommend the ny steak or penne a la vodka, and definitely the chocolate molten cake or apple pie. The atmoshere was dim and alluring, and the space itself has gorgeous high ceilings and comfortable booths and is very reminiscent of old Hollywood. Our waitress was a lovely young girl (whom my wife thought resembled natalie wood!) and she was completely charming and took the time to give us info. and directions even though she was extremely busy. We were also impressed by the manager (lucy?) who could actually speak to each member of our party in their native language (we are an international group)! This was overall a wonderful experience, and we will definitely return whenever we are in town on business. Highly recommended!
Pros: Great food and great service
Cons: Cocktails a little pricey
