In Short – This timeless coffee shop hosts cops of every stripe--the Sgt. Fridays, academy cadets, uniformed officers and plainclothes detectives. Plenty of counter space makes for good people watching, and wall-hung memorabilia provides a brief L.A.P.D. history. Standard breakfast and lunch diner fare, such as burgers, sandwiches and omelettes, are served. The Columbo patty melt is a combo of grilled onions, American cheese and beef on rye. Doughnuts can be scarce, but pie and bread pudding are frequent alternatives.

Eat Like a...Cop

Head to this LAPD-run diner for a whiff of a policeman's life. What do they like to eat? Well, if this menu's any indication, they like good old all-American comfort food. I don't understand how these guys can eat all this high-calorie food and still fit into those snug uniforms. The food's not that great, just the usual coffee shop fare, but it's fun to watch the people who frequent this place. Last time I went, an old guy with about 100 pins on his vest held court.
