This is just a heads up if you are trying to find the market.
- Pros: address is right and driving instructions seem to be okay
- Cons: the mapquest map shows a downtown L.A. location, wrong!
Favorite Way to Spend A Sunday!
by jhoolko at Citysearch
This flea market is hands down my favorite activity for a Sunday morning. It only costs about a dollar to get in (there's a discount with a student ID), and parking is free. Inside, browsing alone provides enough excitement for my morning. I've gotten great vintage clothes, bags, art, jewelry, and junk at this place. Some of the prices are kinda high, but you've just got to bargain or move on to the next stall to find what you're looking for at a price you're willing to pay. I pretty much exclusively buy my sunglasses here--you can count on their unfailing selection of six and seven dollar knockoffs year-round. The furniture selection is also great for those of the Shabby Chic persuasion, and I've gotten great deals several times by waiting to purchase towards the end of the day. Be careful on days that might be even the slightest bit hot. Even if I leave my house in a coat and pants, the parking lot this market is held in ALWAYS ends up being unbearably hot. Wear sunscreen!
- Pros: Cheap, Fun way to spend a Sunday, lots of Variety, free parking in the lot!
- Cons: It gets hot!
Weekly Flea Market Offers Lots of Vintage Treasures
by lwmango at Citysearch
Unlike many of the outdoor flea markets in the LA area, the Melrose Trading Post is held weekly rather than just one Sunday out of the month. Prices are cheaper than at the behemoth Rose Bowl market and in terms of quality and selection is on par with the Pasadena City College flea market. There's a little bit of everything here, from purses and costume jewelry to 1950s dining sets. Some vendors tend to overprice popular items but keep looking as there will most likely be a similar item for half the price on the other side of the parking lot. Go early as some vendors will shut down by noon. Be sure to bring bottled water with you and/or a parasol as browsing can get unbearingly hot during warm days.
- Pros: Held weekly, Parking Lot, Cheap entrance fee
- Cons: Vendors close early, can be unbearingly hot
