nice place, beautiful drinks, small portions, friendly valet, excellent entrees, best huevos rancheros, nice background

It's in the 1930's Hollywood hotel at the Avalon, happy hour specials run from 4 - 7pm Monday through Friday. You can get either the calabreses or napoletana pizzas, mini burgers with fries, or the spicy rock shrimp - all for just $5.
VIP service + excellent food!. Have been to this place a few times for a cocktail but never tried the food. I finally had dinner there a few weeks ago and was very impressed with not only the food, but the service we received, the attentiveness of our waiter (throughout the 5+ hours we were there) and the wine. We ordered the Domaine Chandon, Carneros Pinot Noir and it was excellent. Easily one of the best Pinot’s I have ever had. For dinner we had the SALMONE Scozzese which was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. We also had their pasta special of the night which consisted of some sort of sausage meat and truffles. The pasta was cooked to perfection (not too hard, not too soft but just right). Both dishes were excellent but the pasta dish was my favorite. The wine was so good I think we had 6-7 glasses between the two of us. But the best part of our experience was our waiter, Ricardo. He was so polite, treated us with the utmost respect and was extremely attentive. After our meal, Ricardo treated us to desert on the house. We asked him if we could move outside to enjoy desert by the pool in one of the cabanas (there was only one left by this time) and we were seated within 5 minutes. Just outstanding VIP service all the way. I cannot say enough great things about Ricardo. If you ever get the chance to try this place out, I hope that you are lucky enough to have him as your waiter.
Nice Place. Oliverio is a classic Hollywood example. The place is very nice and glamorous. The food is good but small portions, which makes it more refined. The drinks are also good. The view is awesome. This is just a nice place to come to and try something new.
Solid Italian food. Really enjoyed the cannelloni and risotto, nicely prepared...
Citysearch Editorial Review. Set within the Avalon Hotel, this indoor/outdoor space formerly known as Blue on Blue has maintained its relaxed mid-century modern vibe (don’t worry, the Eames chairs are still here), only now the space has a dash of Italian swank with poolside stone veneer tables, private cabanas set with blue-green marble, Italian ceramic columns and eye-popping wall graphics that’ll give you a buzz before you even take your first sip. (And if you don’t want to sit outside, you can always take in the views through the floor to ceiling glass windows.) Likewise, the menu has taken on a modern Italian flair with handmade pasta (everything from potato gnocchetti to ravioli and tortelli), fried-crust pizzettas and entrees like a 14-ounce bone-in ribeye and Scottish salmon served with asparagus and wild arugula. Of course, this being a hotel eatery, breakfast and lunch are also served daily (as is weekend brunch). But if it’s just a few small bites (or a few strong drinks) you want, the bar/lounge area is perfect for a little R&R whether or not you’re staying overnight.
Less Hollywood But Still LA. Reserved a cabana for my 30th bday party last month and had a really great time, albeit a short one. The scene here starts a little early and ends early too (deserted by 12:30). Had a couple of their appetizers and they were good, albeit a bit pricey. Yes, I agree that some of the staff were a bit snooty (the server looked miffed that we wouldn't order cocktails except for the pre-arranged alcohol we had already ordered), though the valet & other staff were friendly. Very nice background for pictures, though.
You're definitely in LA. You're definitely in LA trying to be in Miami when you walk into this place. The glass divider between the pool and the restaurant definitely gives you the LA sense of glamour and style. The food was alright - nothing special on their "set" valentine's day menu. The ahi was a little bland - the prawns a little tasteless and the lamb a little rough. But the ambiance is nice....good for a date if you don't know your date so well. The tables are set up so you have a diner feel.....not very intimate...and kinda loud. But still a nice place to go. Don't mind the stuck up waiters - you are in LA, after all.
It's a 50/50 chance. The first time I had dinner here, it was great. Then I had brunch there on Sunday, and the have the best Huevos Rancheros I ever had in my life. But then the last few times I have eaten there, the food has just been ok. The service is always horrible at this restaurant. It's a whole bunch of snooty people who work there, and not sure how any makes any tips at the restaurant.
Great restaurant if you're into microscopic portions.... Although the atmosphere was unlike any other restaurant I've ever been to (eating in candlelit, poolside cabanas at night), I wasn't really that impressed with the size of the portions for both dinner and appetizers. I'm used to smaller portions at nicer restaurants, but this was ridiculous. We ordered tomato and mozarella for our appetizer and got 3 tiny wedges of tomato (equivalent to about 1/3 of a small tomato at most). My husband had the filet, which must have only been about 6 oz. I had a lemon chicken breast which was okay, but not outstanding. Everything about this place is small, even down to the bar with three seats. To top it off my server got the drink order wrong. When I called her on it, she tries telling me that I ordered what she gave me. I refused it and she didn't charge us - suprisingly. Needless to say we won't be back.
Very Impressed. I was higly impressed with this restaurant. When we first walked through the door, the Host was very receptive. How can you beat free valet? My bf and I had drinks outside while waiting for our guests and the drinks were great! Although they were expensive, it's the average nowadays in B.H. Beautiful, non pretentious crowd. We ordered the duck, lamb, salmon and john dory. The John Dory sauce was incredible! All the entrees were excellent. My guests and I were very happy with service and food. A must!!!
OVERPRICED. Only go if it's a very special occassion because it is quite expensive( i.e. "flat" and "sparkling" water cost $8.50 a bottle). It's a beautiful place filled with beautiful people drinking beautiful drinks. The seared ahi tuna appetizer is really good, and so is the lamb entre. If you're going to break the bank, might as well do it here.
