What People Are Saying About Well

The Scene – When the coziest lounge in Hollywood fills to capacity every night, what are the owners to do? Open up a new bar with a swankier vibe right around the corner, of course. Within walking distance of Daddy's, the Well maintains the sexy atmosphere of its predecessor, but adds a shot of sophistication. Keyhole doorways, intimate booths and cushy seating against one wall encourage a let's-get-to-know-each-other mood. Making new friends is easy because the jukebox volume is set low enough so you can actually hear what you're saying. Good thing, since it can be quite a mood-breaker…
My Favorite Bar
by VitaLusty at Citysearch
My pros pretty much cover it . . . you can park on the south side of Sunset, you just need a little walk. Its better to walk off the stiff drinks anyway.
Bartenders are pretty girls who are very nice, so be good to them.
Music is loud and annoying, but really the only kink in the otherwise perfect atmosphere.
Its a great place for those of us who slave in the industry. Happy Hour 6-9pm.
- Pros: Cheap Drinks, Late Happy Hour, No Tourists
- Cons: Loud Music
Great Bar - too loud
by dslocum at Citysearch
I've been to the Well twice this week since New Years. It has a great location, lighting, and seating. However the music is way too loud. You can't hold a conversation with the person sitting next to you in the booth because the volume from the speakers is high. For a place with so much going for it I can't believe the staff is letting this detail slide. Also, the music in the jukebox is dated. You'd think a place that's cutting edge would play hipper music. Come on this is LA.
- Pros: Location, location, location. Great interior seating and lighting.
- Cons: The music is too loud and cheesy. For the kind of ambience I'd expect electronic music.
Nice bar, bad management
by becca1126 at Citysearch
We threw a birthday party here on Friday night. We reserved the back room, which was perfect for a group. We got there at 6 (for happy hour). The drinks were good, the crowd was nice, and the music just the right level. Everything went smoothly until one of the security guards started making a scene at about 10:30. Turns out, he wanted one of the people in the party to leave because he was wearing shorts and after 9 you can't wear shorts. We had not been told about any dress code earlier in the night and had already been there for several hours at this time. It seems pretty ridiculous to make someone leave a party after that many hours, especially since the crowd was so casual. We tried to talk to the manager, but the security card wouldn't tell us where he was. Luckily, someone had an extra pair of pants. Later on, I went to the bar simply to tell the manager how dissapointed I was in the way it was played out. I told the bartender I wanted to talk to him, and she relayed the message to him, but he wouldn't even talk to me.
Overall, it's a great little bar, with some bad little people.
- Pros: Nice bar, not too crowded
- Cons: staff on a power trip, parking
The Details on Well
Know Before You Go:
The Well is tucked away beneath House of Blues' corporate offices on Argyle. Look for the bouncer and stray smokers congregated outside the velvet rope.

Look Good:
If the line's too long, walk around the corner to the Daddy's. Owned by the same people, it has a similar dark-lounge atmosphere.
