Editorial Review for Bikram's Yoga College of India – by Lee Parker
The Scene
With a strong background in hatha yoga, Bikram Choudhury spent years with doctors and scientists perfecting his own system. In 1974, he opened the Yoga College of India in Beverly Hills. The method is a rigorous and demanding workout that will put even highly trained athletes to the test. A studio over 100 degrees keeps students sweating while they perform a series of 26 traditional asanas (poses) in reps, with continuous verbal direction from attentive teachers. Every muscle, joint, organ, and pore is affected. It isn't particularly peaceful in the moment, but afterward, you'll feel utterly transformed.
The Workout
Arrive at least 10 minutes early for your first class; bring a large towel (to lay over your sticky mat), a washcloth (you'll get slippery during class), and a bottle of water. Classes last 90 minutes and should only be done on an empty stomach.

I love Bikram but won't be going here!! When I called to make sure the online schedule was current, and to make sure the class that I wanted was taught in English, I was spoken to in an unbelievably rude and sarcastic way. Apparently he was unaware that other studios do classes in languages other than English, and was shocked to hear the question. I will be going back to the studio in Redondo Beach where everyone is friendly and informative, and I already know the schedule!

The man at the desk was so rude, I left. I really love Bikram Yoga and I used to take classes in Arizona in a great studio in Scottsdale and everyone was so polite and fun...Here, the first contact was so horrible, maybe they have enough business, they did not need me...very sad because I need them recovering from Moersh-Woltman Syndrome, I really needed to work out, just could not handle the stress at the desk. Maybe if he knew I was a famous artist, his mood will have change... Sabine Fimbres
