Renowned yoga instructor, Brian Kest, along with a handful of other skilled practioners, offers a variety of asana yoga classes in Santa Monica.
Great workout! Always the best teachers!!!!

I love Bryan Kest Yoga! I am always disapointed when I go to other locations. The classes are challenging, but they can be modified to most levels. They are never boring and the teachers are very motivating.
I still travel from the Valley when I can... they are the BEST!!!
- Pros: Excellent teachers, donation based, great hours.
- Cons: crouded, not in the valley... boo hoo!!!!
If you are new to yoga, there are certain teachers you might want to avoid.

Bryan Kest was one of my first yoga teachers and I highly recommend him. His classes are strong, sweaty, and thorough. He constantly reminds you to do only what is right for your body and not to do what he says just because he is the teacher. A friend of mine first tried out yoga with Rudy and is now unable to do any type of vinyasa yoga because of a shoulder injury from attending Rudy's class regularly for 2 years. (who, by the way does not emphasize listening to your body)
If you are a beginner, I would not recomend Rudy.
Bryan, Govindas, and Ashley are 3 of my favorite teachers- excellent for beginners and more seasoned yoga enthusiasts.
Both studios have great energy.
- Pros: Great classes, great teachers, 2 studios.
- Cons: Some teachers not good for beginners.
Great Yoga Studio w/ Convenient Parking

I've been practicing Yoga at SMPY West on 2nd Street in Santa Monica for over 2 years. It has transformed my body! Two levels of yoga are offered. Level 2 is really a great but intense workout. The studio is donation based, which is a really unique idea. The studio is nicely done. The teachers are all very good. Rudy is my favorite! With the exception of Rudy, most of the teachers start class late and end class late, which can be really frustrating if you have a life since the classes last 1 1/2 hours. There is free two hour parking across the street, which is really convenient. The classes are full but not overcrowded. Overall, it's a great studio. I just wish the teachers would start and end on time!!!
- Pros: Great Studio, Convenient Parking
- Cons: Most Teachers Don't Start or End Class On Time!
The Details on Bryan Kest's Power Yoga
Know Before You Go:
Yoga mats are available to rent for $2, but it's highly recommended that regular yogis purchase their own mats. Since things get pretty sweaty, this is a more sanitary and healthy decision.
Look Good:
Bring a towel and make sure to wear loose fitting pants or shorts. Avoid baggy shirts or tops because they are likely to interfere and hinder your poses.
The Extras:
This is the first of two Santa Monica Power Yoga studios. The second is located, naturally, on Second Street and Santa Monica Boulevard.
Save Money:
Santa Monica Power Yoga operates on "the power of giving." That means classes are donation only and guests are encouraged to give what they can afford. $12 is the recommended amount per session, however.
