From The Owner of Katana

Rustic Japanese fare, sci-fi-inspired decor and a beautiful crowd add up to a Sunset Strip hot spot.

About Katana

  • Japanese beer garden Sundays.
  • Private dining room.
  • Patio overlooking The Sunset Strip.

We specialize in open flame charcoal grill cooking serving Japanese comfort food. The specialty of the house is robata - traditional Japanese skewers are roasted over an open flame, infusing the meat, fish or vegetables with a smoky essence.

Located in the historic Plaza del Sol building, Katana is distinguished by design accents such as protruding railroad spikes that line the walls of the lounge and polished redwood bar tops made from a mammoth 400-year old fallen redwood tree. The 6,000-square foot restaurant has many distinct spaces, including the bar and lounge areas, the main dining room with Sushi Bar and Robata Grill, the Tea Room, Sunset Room, private dining room and the outdoor heated patio overlooking the bustling Sunset Strip.

What Our Expert Scouts Say

Katana

I love this place because on a warm summer night, you can hang out in the outdoor patio and enjoy the nights of LA. Decent food and a great atmosphere for casual or dressy night out.

Great scene, OK food. Katana certainly is a glamorous dinner destination. Beautiful people, trendy clothes and plenty of stiletto heels. The outside patio is delightful for both eating and cocktail-ing, mainly because you get the benefit of checking people out as they're coming and going. The food is just OK. Sure, the kabobs are pretty cool and pretty good, but nothing better than you could accomplish on your own. Chicken-stuffed mushrooms were simply unexceptional; cod was suspiciously fishy. The dipping sauces, though, are excellent. And the spicy spicy tuna roll was quite appealing. But fabulous? I think not.

$14 for Valet Parking. Well ,The Valet was 14 dollars and the edame was too salty and overcooked. My Sashimi salad was "not as fresh" as should be but it was only $8.00. The Sushi I ordered was below average, Overall the atmoshphere and vibe made up for the so so meal. I will go back and give it another try if they could get better waiters who know how to make better suggestions to first timers. Menu was confusing and was not explained by inexperienced young staff. Location is everything, isn't it? That is what they have. Good atmosphere as well.

High Priced Style. This place is beautiful inside and out, it is a cool spot with lots of trendy people, and a place that even stars show up at. If you just want to hang out in a dimly lit, stylish, Japanese restaurant and then Katana is the place to. The food is good but not worth money, it is very pricey yet very average. The staff is friendly, they get very busy but the service is satisfactoy. I would suggest going to this place just because of the atmosphere.

Hip Spot. The owners of Sushi Roku and Balboa have pulled out all the stops for this stylish new eatery. Sit at the robata bar and watch your food as it gets grilled. A great new food experience.
