Editorial Review for East Beach – by Randi Schmelzer
In Short
Clean sand and shady palm trees make this one of the city's most popular beaches--but it's the volleyball nets that attract huge crowds all year around. Runners and in-line skaters break at benches along the paved bike path, while college kids and families mingle in the picnic pavilions and around the skateboard and playground areas. Day or night, East Beach is a great destination for a romantic stroll, but its popularity peaks each Sunday during the free arts-and-crafts show.

I guess i went on a day where not too much was going on but i didn't mind....it was a romantic getaway and being in the beach semi-alone, enjoying the scenary was nice....the sand wasn't at all dirty...there were many volleyball nets so if you were looking to do that...the harbor was close by, with its shops and restaurants and shops....the water was clean, surprisingly...and there are trolley tours available....

It's a long beach and gets filled up just over the summer, mostly by tourists. The locals know the best parts of the beach are further down where Sat. & Sun. East Beach is the prime spot in Santa Barbara to play Beach Volley. Be there early (8:30AM) or all of the courts will be taken and there are about 20 of them! If you walk even further down you will end up at Buttersfly beach which is very popular among locals. The beauty of that beach is captured in many wedding photos over and over again. Santa Barbara is in general a jewel that uncovers it's true beauty to the locals. SB is full of great places to eat, enojoy outdoors, ... Citiy Search reviewer is obviously a tourist who didn't take his time in Santa Barbara and that's what Santa Barbara is about.
Pros: beautyful, fun, cool
Cons: crowded, empty
