The Scene
The nearest Wahoo's may be miles from the ocean, but this chain creates a beachy atmosphere with cabana-esque decor and a Hawaii surf-themed menu. Service is speedy, with a warm aloha vibe.

The Food
Wahoo serves up a fresh, light and tasty fusion of Latino, Asian and Cajun fare. Bowls, burritos and combos come filled with your choice of meat, blackened or teriyaki style. The enchiladas are petite but packed with zesty flavor--especially when topped with the roasted pepper and cilantro green sauce. The most addictive concoctions are the side dishes: Ahi rice is delicately seasoned and steamed to slightly sticky perfection. Cajun beans are tiny, tender and pack a pleasant bayou bite. Baja rolls are flour tortillas spread with a touch of cream cheese, wrapped around leaf spinach, chopped chicken and salsa, and served with the vibrant green sauce.

I love their fish taco and enchilada combo. Their choices are of the finest ingredients (black beans, regular, and white rice). I love how the staff is attentive, quick, and truly seem to want you to come back again, and again. I work for the Pasadena Unified School Dist. and I love walking across the street when I have a meeting the offices. The staff always asks what else can they do for you. Wow! What a concept, to offer service at a restaurant. I think they have NOT forgotten about customer service. It's not only that their food is fresh, tasty, well priced, it's the human touch they also offer. Wahoo!!!

Wahoo's is much more than fast food. Its such a perfect example of laidback California cuisine. I love the Banzai Bowl with the teriyaki grilled banzai vegetables, blackened fish, ahi rice, and spicy cajun beans. The Baja Rolls with chicken, salsa, and spinach are also delicious. They blend Mexican, Asian, and Hawaiian tastes so well. If you are looking for pure, authentic Mexican food, this isn't the place to go, but if you are looking for fresh healthy food (and lots of it) at a place that embraces the laidback attitude of surfer/skater X-games culture, I highly recommend it. The fish has always tasted fresh, the kalua pork is as good as any I've tried from any Hawaiian restaurants, and the servings are generous. Plus, they've got beer specials and....stickers...EVERYWHERE.

This place is not Mexican food by any stretch of the imagination. It was a favorite of a friend of mine who's a surfer - go figure, this place is quintessential California. But after going there many times my husband and I decided that it's just fast food but much more expensive than comparable places. You could get the same exact thing at Baja Fresh. We don't go here anymore - if you want fast "California/Mexican" go to Baja Fresh; if you want authentic Mexican simply drive a couple minutes north anywhere along Orange Grove or Lake and you will find scores of family-run restaurants with large plates and taco truck prices.
