Stupidity Reigns at This Restaurant. Having grown up in Downey and remembering Chris' & Pitt's fondly I had the occasion to visit this location while back in California visiting family. It was a Friday night and I knew it would be crowded so we ordered our food over the phone "To Go". When I arrived I did not notice the special entrance for To Go orders and entered the main restaurant. It was very crowded with most people waiting to be seated and a few in line to pay. I got in line and when I got up to the register I told them I wanted to pick up my To Go order and was told I was in the wrong line and would have to go back outside and go to the To Go window. Now I'm all for rules and following protocol BUT, there was nobody in line behind me and nobody in line at the To Go window and my food was clearly marked in a bag just behind the cashier I was talking to. I tried to explain I was from out of town, this was a bit of a problem because the clerk did not speak much English, and I just needed my food sitting within arms length behind her. She insisted I go back outside so I spoke to the girl on the next register, who was doing nothing and appeared to be working the To Go window, and got the same answer. Figuring I was missing the "big picture" and that my order needed to be rung up on a special register or something I went back outside and entered through the To Go door only to be greeted by the same cashier whom I had just talked with. I asked for the manager and when she came she acted like I was the biggest bother in her life, no explanation, apology, or anything else just, "Do you want your food or not?" Maybe I have just gotten accustomed to better treatment at restaurants outside of California but I thought this was just ridiculous. Needless to say, I told her she could keep the food and I will NEVER eat at a Chris' & Pitt's again.

BTW, I tried to contact their franchise offices to complain and had no luck.

The barbecue sauce at this SoCal institution makes for a tasty--and messy-- experience for grown-ups and children alike.. In Short
Dubbed "home of the live wood fire," this small family restaurant chain was started in 1940 in the city of Lynwood. Families, groups and hungry locals dine amid the dark wood benches and occasional bits of sawdust on the floor. The meaty menu includes entrees such as steak, chicken, and slabs of ribs slathered in a thick, rich sauce. There are also sandwiches, shrimp dishes, spaghetti and a handful of sides like baked potato and sweet barbecue beans.

I drive by this place all the time, since its close to home and it always smells delicious...so i finally went in and the prices were great...i mean its not the best bar b q but you get a salad, bread, dessert with your meal, included....that was great..went there for a date, it had a great ambience and the food was not too expensive...

Great Bar-B-que at Great prices. My wife and I used to go to the South Gate location until it closed years ago. Since then, we frequent the Bellflower one and on occasion go to the Downey location. Steaks, ribs, chicken, some seafood. The only thing on the menu over $20 is the Combo for Two. Every dinner comes with soup or salad, garlic bread, baked potato or fries, and baked beans. This is one of the hidden bargains of Southern California. Great food (lots of it), and you don't need to take out a small loan to pay for it. Our waitress was always ready to serve. On July 4, 2006 we went to the Bellflower location, and really enjoyed it. I wish someday someone would open more locations.

Delicious Food and GREAT Steaks.... All of their food is delicious (except the beans, I'm not too crazy about those). The Prime Rib is my favorite. You get a huge piece with all the fixings for $10. This is definetely a place you would take your family and friends too.

Caution: There can be a quite a wait during peak hours (like 6 - 8 PM). I recommend going during the late hours. till 10 PM during the week and midnight on weekends.

great food, greater price!. Ambience is homely casual as the dress attire. The food is hearty homestyle BBQ chicken, pork ribs, and you gotta try thr big plate of beef ribs! The entire experience is casual and comfortable. Dont worry there are salads too. You walk into the restaurant and smell the sweet smell of barbeque in the air. Make sure you give the waitress your name because there is a line most of the time but the wait is minimal. If you're hungry and want some really good barbeque for not allot of money, you gotta try this restaurant!
